Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. The Division is comprised of 10 Laboratory Units, each headed by a specialist who provides for skilled management, provision of the newest and most accurate tests, and expert clinical consultation. The Administrative Supervisor is responsible for administrative activities and provides operational support for the clinical laboratories at Moses, Foreman 8:  laboratory services, chemistry, hematology, reference lab.  The position oversees the acquisition of materials and supplies, assists in securing human resources, contributes to budget management and addresses facilities issues and concerns. 



  • Oversee administrative activities and provide support for laboratory directors, managers and supervisors including human resource and budget management and vendor relationship activities
  • Supervise office coordinators and related staff.  Hire, train, evaluate, coach, discipline as needed
  • Support human resource needs by:  work with HR Recruiting for scheduling candidates, intervene with union, resolve disputes, be the knowledge expert for handling issues. Process documents for various leaves and absences in HCM
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures as well as with federal, state and other regulatory agency mandates (JCAHO, NYSDOH, CAP). Provide administrative assistance for maintaining policies and procedures
  • Work with other departments on projects that benefit the department; coordinate for ensuring operations run smoothly without impact to patient care. Work with Facilities on issues affecting laboratory operations and the workspace
  • Work with vendors to resolve issues that prevent day-to-day operations, secure contracts, negotiate pricing, establish new workflows, monitor service contracts, and other duties as needed
  • Act as a back-up for ordering supplies, creating purchase requisitions, processing employee reimbursement, check requests and other documents as needed
  • Assist in the development of budgets.  Monitor monthly financial performance in collaboration with managers and lab director.  Provide financial information to senior leadership as needed
  • Schedule monthly departmental staff meetings and secretarial staff meetings. Address  workflow or other issues as brought up by the staff
  • Interact with department senior administration, provide necessary information, respond to requests, etc.
  • Use the Laboratory Information System for performing routine work or look up data, investigate issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership



  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • 5 + years of work experience in the laboratory field or medicine are highly preferred
  • Strong MS Office (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint) skills are required for this position
  • Familiarity with other software for purchasing, budgets, others are preferred
  • Prior experience in the laboratory field or medicine are highly preferred 
  • Excellent communication, organization, and people skills are required for this challenging role
  • Must be able to multi-task in a high paced environment, be able to prioritize duties and tasks, effectively communicate goals and expectations
