ASSOC DIRECTOR INFECTION CONTROL

BRONX, NY, US


The Associate Director of Infection Prevention and Control maintains the standards of practice for Infection Prevention as defined by the program’s Standard Operating Procedures for Infection Prevention, and as defined by regulatory agencies and national standards.

This position is accountable with the Director for the overall management activities for Montefiore's infection prevention and control program at all ambulatory and acute care sites, which includes assistance with supervision of the Infection Prevention and Control staff, and will have a leadership role for designated special projects to ensure quality care and patient safety, with particular emphasis on ambulatory sites.

Accountable with the Director, the Infection Prevention Committee Chairman, and Committee members in a shared governance model to plan, develop, implement and evaluate outcomes of the Infection Prevention and Control Program specifically at ambulatory and acute care sites.

Partners with the Hospital Epidemiologist, Senior Director of High Level Disinfection and Sterilization, and Director of Infection Prevention in setting standards and priorities based on evidence-based literature and guidelines, evaluating compliance with policies and practices, and leading/coaching the performance improvement efforts associated with the prevention and control of healtcare-associated infections and infectious exposures at all ambulatory and acute care sites. Consults, advises and informs Hospital Epidemiologist/Director of Infection Prevention concerning administrative or other department/program issues, needs and problems. Under the direction of the Hospital Epidemiologist, participates in regional and national collaboratives and academic societies, utilizes and initiates research to improve departmental functions and patient safety, and assists with design and implementation of informatics and technology infrastructure required to improve institutional access and feedback of infection-related data. 

At the direction of the Director and Hospital Epidemiologist, assists in management and oversight of infection preventionists and other infection prevention staff, training and competency of infection prevention and related staff, quality assurance and feedback regarding work and performance of infection prevention staff, and infection prevention operational issues.

 

Education/Skills Required:

 

-Professional Registered Nurse license and current registration to practice in New York State or equivalent licensure for  applicable non-nursing candidates.
-Infection Control, hospital epidemiology or related experience required.
-Documented commitment to continuing professional development.
-Masters degree in a heath-related field preferred at time of employment. 
-Infection control certification required.

Experience in ambulatory Infection Prevention strongly preferred.
-Clinical Information System (CIS)
-Mastery of NHSN definitions and reporting requirements related to infection prevention and control
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team
-Excellent problem solving, communication and presentation skills 
-Experience working with performance improvement tools and methods, such as PDSA, LEAN techniques, and High Reliability Organizations strongly preferred
-Experience in qualitative/quantitative methods and health policy is required.
-Experience in leading the full healthcare continuum, including the inpatient and outpatient environments, as well as medical and nursing education (including residents) is preferred.  
-Excellent leadership, communication, presentation skills and the ability to influence required.  
-Strong experience will be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
