To supervise and monitor the operation of the division of Cytology in compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies (City, State, Federal, accrediting bodies) to ensure accurate and timely quality cytology services to the Medical Center, affiliated institutions, and the surrounding community. To participate in and initiate clinical research with the approval of the department, to further the understanding and use of the cytologic method for patient care and basic science



  • Daily evaluation and assignment of technical work.  Direct work processes throughout the shift
  • Perform technical or clerical work as necessary
  • Test, Reagent and Equipment Quality Control to assist / perform process / procedure validation as necessary
  • Perform staff training 
  • Assist the supervisor in training and evaluation of associates and lab procedures, policies, including safety issues
  • Maintain up-to-date equipment list including inspection dates and certificates of operation
  • Instrumental in maintaining compliance with NYSDOH and CAP regulations - Evaluating work- load limits, cytology / histology correlations and discrepancies, and developing quality improvement projects
  • Critical in managing and meeting compliance with internal and external audits, as described in CAP checklist and NYSDOH regulations
  • Monitors critical laboratory metrics and comparison to benchmarks, to determine efficacy of the QM system
  • Implement and manage projects for laboratory equipment in efforts to improve service and expand laboratory space for better efficiency
  • Other activities as may be required by the laboratory and department of hospital management



  • Bachelor's Degree Cytopathology required
  • A minimum 6 years of work experience required 
  • Current NYS license for cytotechnologist required
  • Current NYS registration for cytotechnologist required
  • CTASCP registered required
  • SurePath certified required
  • Knowledge of cytopreparation, BD Totalys Slide Prep, BD Prepmate
  • Experience with Outlook, Epic, Soft, Beaker, Kronos, HCM, Procurement Suite Supply Ordering is required


This position is in the Cytopathology lab in the Moses campus. The hours of the position are 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
