Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites.


The Laboratory Manager will direct the 24/7 operation of the Pathology Rapid Response Laboratory.  Monitor and improve workflow and turnaround time to achieve the highest level of physician and patient satisfaction. Implement processes that improve efficiency, productivity and increase associate satisfaction. Manage, teach, train, and oversee staff production across multiple disciplines.



  • Direct the daily operation of the pre-analytical aspects of the Rapid Response Laboratory to achieve departmental and institutional goals for the provision of quality patient care. Manage supervisors and associates effectively
  • Provide support for the Director of Laboratories
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies: CAP, JC, NYSDOH: meet quality, leadership, human resource, and facility management standards.  Assist the director with monitoring and implementing quality improvement initiatives. 
  • Work with laboratory managers and directors on improving pre-analytical processes leading to overall quality improvement
  • Determine the appropriate staffing plan for 24/7 operations and schedule associates to ensure proper staffing levels
  • Hire, train, evaluate, discipline, and assess competency for supervisors, technical and clerical staff, and laboratory helpers
  • Interact with 1199 leadership to minimize and resolve conflicts and improve labor relations
  • Train Pathology house staff in clinical laboratory operations
  • Serve as a liaison on departmental and institutional committees
  • Plan and arrange for continuing education programs for all associates
  • Hold regular staff meetings with Core Lab and other sites laboratory service staff
  • Improve customer and associate satisfaction in accordance with Montefiore Excellence expectations. Handle complaints from physicians, nurses, patients, clients, and others



  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred life sciences or med tech
  • Must have at least 7 years of experience
  • New York State Clinical Lab Technologist license required
  • Experience with and knowledge of laboratory and clinical information systems is required.
  • Good working knowledge of office software is also required
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of clinical laboratory medicine


This position is located in the Rapid Response lab at the Westchester Square campus. The hours are 8:30am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday.
