MEDICAL RECORDS CODER I

BRONX, NY, US


The Medical Records Coder must demonstrate expert knowledge in CPT coding guidelines, E&M levels of service, HCPCS, Modifiers, ICD-10 diagnoses, and coding analysis.  The Medical Records Coder will be responsible for all diagnostic and procedural coding guidelines for both the technical and professional services components for Department of Oncology/Radiation Oncology Cancer Services.

Ability to work and resolve EPIC related DNBs, claim/charging edits, timely filing, and/or other aged accounts according to the Oncology's escalation policy. Work and resolve all assigned work queues and adhere to all productivity standards. Must be able to review and/or correct cases relating to various coding scenarios including bundling/CCI, medical necessity/LCD edits, NCD, mismatch diagnosis, and mismatch dates of service in EPIC. Must be able to analyze data related to missed charges, prior authorization review, and rebilling patient accounts. Must be proficient in review of EOBs and denial reason code. Liaise/work with A/R team in both Professional Services and Hospital Services Receivable to reduce coding denials, appeal claim denials, medical necessity and/or any other required clinical documentation. Participate in various quality initiative programs that affect clinical data and billing optimization.

Bachelor’s degree. 3 years of related work experience. Coding Certification required: CCS or CPC. Knowledge of Medical Oncology specialty care services, chemotherapy, and infusion Billing. Knowledge of both Hospital Billing and Professional Billing work flow. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, HCPCS, CPT, ICD-10 and modifiers required. Strong knowledge of Infusion hierarchy, and chemotherapy drug coding required. Hospital Revenue Cycle experience knowledge or potential. Knowledge of the following systems: EPIC, EPIC Cubes, Optum Encoder, and/or Craneware. Professional verbal and written communication skill-sets required. Demonstrates team spirit and ability in working in a team environment
