METHADONE COUNSELOR

Montefiore Medical Center’s outpatient substance abuse treatment program has a dedicated team of addiction treatment professionals, medical providers and mental health clinicians who assist our clients in developing the skills they need to be drug and alcohol free. We are seeking a Methadone Counselor who can provide counseling to individuals receiving integrated substance abuse treatment and primary care services at the Substance Abuse Treatment program.

 

Responsibilities:
•    Provide substance abuse counseling to individuals, groups, and families focusing on building motivation, education, planning crisis intervention, relapse prevention and aftercare. Counseling sessions will be based on patients’ level of functioning and reviewed on a regular basis.
•    Comprehensive patient psychosocial to be completed upon admission.
•    Instruct patients in program policies and procedures. Document in clinical chart.
•    Document patient clinical charts. Develop, implement, and review treatment plans.
•    Coordinate comprehensive services within the clinic for patients on counseling caseload.
•    Monitor patients’ response to methadone medication treatment through individual counseling and toxicology review. 
•    Conduct vocational / educational and learning needs evaluation in psychosocial and ongoing as indicated. Provide referrals as needed.
•    Perform preliminary evaluation regarding mental health needs of patients on caseload (i.e. presence of psychiatric symptoms, suicidality, homicidality, etc.). 
•    Evaluate all patient eligibility for financial entitlements (Public Assistance, SSI, Medicaid, etc.). Refer patients to appropriate agencies when indicated.
•    Enter patient data into HRA / STARS.
•    Act as liaison between patient and outside agencies.
•    Maintain required records on patients and update progress notes. Ensure clinical chart contains necessary information regarding patient’s status and other information required by program policies and regulatory agencies. Complete all required treatment plans.
•    Assist patients with referral to other services and agencies determined to be necessary to the recovery process (i.e. shelters, detox units, legal counsel, etc.). Follow referrals through phone calls and letters and document in the clinical chart.
•    Give case presentations in supervision, IDC meetings, and daily reports.
•    Ensure all counselor specific billable services are billed and perform follow-ups to billing (delinquent payments, obtaining information required to bill, confirming and updating billing information, etc.) 
•    Attend seminars, trainings, and grand rounds which are determined to be important to staff development. 
•    Supervise the collection of toxicology samples for all patients as required by federal and state regulations.
•    Meet with family members, significant others, and outside providers as determined to be necessary and appropriate for clinical management and care.

 

Qualifications:
•    1 + year (s) of work experience as an addiction counselor (preferably with methadone clients)
•    BA or BS degree is preferred 
•    CASAC required 
•    Knowledge of governmental, private and community programs and entitlements available to patients
•    Familiarity with various state and federal regulations
•    Ability to operate computer software systems (STARS, SMART, EPIC etc.)

 

This is a temporary position and the hours will vary based on the associate's availability, between the hours of 7am and 6pm.

 

This is a 100% grant funded position.
