Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - AIDS Dept


Job Summary: 


The  Nurse Practitioner is an important member of the AIDS Center will assess and provide care to a selected group of patients in collaboration with physicians and the mental health team within a multidisciplinary care model. The NP will be responsible for carrying out the plan of care for their patient panel.  
The NP contributes to the actualization of the philosophy and objectives of the specific Division/ Department.  NP practice within their scope of practice in the delivery of psychiatric care.  They participate in performance improvement and research activities, and maintain professional practice standards and clinical expertise. 


Job Requirements: 

  • New York State License for a Registered Professional Nurse and current registration or valid permit to practice in New York State as an RN.
  • Current New York State psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certification
  • B.S. Degree; Master's or post Master's Certificate in specialty as a nurse practitioner preferred; or a combination of education and experience that is acceptable to N.Y. State Education Department and the Nursing and/or Chairman of the Department, or Division Director. 
  • BLS Certification 
  • National certification in nurse practitioner specialty (ie: ANCC or AACP) preferred.
  • Additional education as required by specialty/ patient care location. 
  • Experience successfully working with one or more of the following populations: individuals living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C, LGBTQ individuals, persons of color, and populations at high risk of HIV, STIs, or Hepatitis
  • Experience with an Electronic Health Record; Epic preferred 
  • Use of patient care equipment as authorized by scope of practice. 
  • Superb communication and customer service skills are required at all times to interact effectively with all patients. Effective English communication skills, written, oral and interpersonal. 
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, excellent organizational skills, compassion, and ability to meet deadlines as well as the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers (patients, direct care staff, providers, departmental and executive leadership, etc.). 
  • Ability to use data entry and retrieval system. 
  • May rotate to other AIDS Center sites based on operational needs.
  • Additional education as required by specialty areas/patient care locations. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Office Word.
  • Must be able to wear full PPE up to and including N95 mask for infection control purposes
  • Experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and dually diagnosed patients who may also have multiple medical comorbidities. 
  • Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
