Nurse Practitioner - Neurology


The Montefiore NP maintains standards of the practice for nursing as defined by the American Nurses

The NP actualizes the vision, mission, values, balanced scorecard performance measures for Montefiore
Medical Center.
The NP participates in performance improvement/research activities; maintains professional practice
standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills. The NP demonstrates core and unit
specific competencies based on the patient population served.
The Nurse Practitioner will assess and provide care to Headache Center patients in collaboration
with physicians. The NP will be responsible for carrying out the plan of care for his/her patient panel. The NP will treat a variety of patients who suffer from various primary and secondary headache disorders. Patient care will be carried out in a multidisciplinary setting and the NP will be involved in the full range of services offered, including, but not limited to, performing a detailed headache history and examination, ordering appropriate diagnostic evaluations, implementing both pharmacological and non-pharmacological management strategies, and administering headache related therapeutic procedures and outpatient infusions.

The NP contributes to the actualization of the philosophy and objectives of the Headache Center. He/she practices within the scope of practice in care delivery. He/she participates in performance improvement and research activities, and maintains professional practice
standards and clinical expertise.


A. New York State License for a Registered Professional Nurse and current registration and permit to practice in NYS as an RN.
B. Current New York State Nurse Practitioner specialty certification and registration.
C. Master=s or post Master=s Certificate in specialty as a nurse practitioner preferred; or a combination of education and experience that is acceptable to N.Y. State Education Department
and the Director of Nursing and/or Chairman of the Department, or Division Director.
D. National certification in nurse practitioner specialty preferred.
E. Additional education as required by specialty/patient care location, (3+ years of infusion experience preferred).


-Knowledge of infusion and/or injectable pharmacological treatments which include bio-therapies in the clinic setting for the adult populations. 
-Ability to assess for toxicities, monitor patients for infusion related reactions, intervene as required, and accurately document the infusion. 
-Effective English communication skills, (both written, oral).
Ability to use data entry and retrieval system

• Use of appropriate diagnostic equipment
• Use of automated clinical information system
