Nurse Practitioner – Shifts: Nights 7p-7:30a, Occasional days: 7a-7:30p

We invite you to have an opportunity to join our 15-bed, Level III NICU as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Montefiore Wakefield has approximately 2,000 births each year, including a percentage of high-risk infants in need of specialized neonatal care. We have advanced technology available, including high-frequency mechanical ventilation and nitric oxide.


As a Nurse Practitioner- You Will

  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members.
  • Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting.
  • Facilitate the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g. home care, other facilities, appointments with MDs etc.
  • Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
  • Perform complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit.
  • Order customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the collaborating physician.
  • Formulate the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay
  • Prescribe in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.


As a Nurse Practitioner- You Need

  • Licensure: Current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in New York; Drug Enforcement Authority (DEA) registration; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Master's Degree in Nursing; Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner Competence
  • Relevant clinical nursing practice in the care of the patient population served. 
  • Must be able to perform procedures such as incubation, intravenous insertion and central lines
