PATIENT SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

The AIDS Center provides HIV primary and specialty care, sexually transmitted disease screening and treatment, HIV biomedical prevention services, Hepatitis C care, and LGBTQ care at the Center for Positive Living/ID Clinic, the Oval Center and the Inpatient Consult Service. Investigators and staff have recently responded to the COVID-19 outbreak by participating in a number of potential breakthrough clinical trials for this illness.  The AIDS Center’s new Clinical Trials Unit is a dedicated research unit to meet the burgeoning needs of the COVID-19 and HIV pandemics through therapeutic and preventive studies including vaccines, other methods of prevention, and new therapeutic agents and approaches. This unit, while under the umbrella of the AIDS Center, operates primarily at an offsite location near the Moses Campus of Montefiore Medical Center; some activities may occur on-site at the Moses Campus, at the Einstein Campus of Montefiore, at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and at various locations in the tri-state New York City region.

The Clinical Trials Unit will be serving those with or at-risk for COVID-19 or HIV, aiming to provide the latest research advances to people of the Bronx and surrounding areas.  We pride ourselves on making research and clinical services available to people of diverse backgrounds including race, ethnicity, gender identification, sexual preference, and socioeconomic condition.  The clients we serve know to trust us for our inclusiveness and respect.

Job Summary:

As a professional member of an interdiciplinary team, the Patient Service Representative will perform a variety of clerical functions to insure the efficient operation of a Physician's office or clinic,  Serves as a liaison between the patient, physician, clinical providers,  ancillary case staff, and diagnostic services.  Verifies insurance coverage status and collect and records payment utilizing automated systems.  Schedules appointments. Performs related work as required.  

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED
• At least 6 months work experience
• Experience with an Electronic Health Record. 
• Detail-oriented
• Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, excellent organizational skills, compassion, and ability to meet deadlines as well as the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers (patients, direct care staff, providers, departmental and executive leadership, etc.). 
• May rotate to other AIDS Center sites based on operational needs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Office Word.
• Superb communication and customer service skills are required at all times to interact effectively with all patients. Effective English communication skills, written, oral and interpersonal. 
• Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems
• Spanish speaking preferred but not required
• Must be able to wear full PPE up to and including N95 mask for infection control purposes
• Knowledge of Medical insurances/programs accepted by clinic- Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and commercial insurance.
