PHD Scientist - Clinical Microbiology Laboratory

BRONX, NY, US

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Montefiore is seeking a PhD scientist to assist in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new assays and to contribute to quality management activities. The individual will also be responsible for assessing the impact of diagnostic assays on improving patient care and to publish these findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Montefiore offers full-service bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, and parasitology testing as well as infectious disease serology assays and urinalysis.  The laboratory performs testing for the adult hospitals within the Montefiore Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and outpatient facilities.  The laboratory serves a growing population of transplant, oncology, and other complex immunocompromised patients.  Advances in infectious disease diagnostics have allowed for the adoption of high-complexity molecular assays such as mass spectrometry and multiplexed PCR in clinical microbiology laboratories.  The ability to offer these emerging technologies is necessary to ensure that clinicians at Montefiore have access to the most effective modalities for patient care.

Applicants should currently possess a PhD in a related field and ideally will have experience with microbiological, molecular, and/or diagnostic assays.
