The psychologist will work with patients with learning disabilities and other neurodevelopmental disabilities ages 7 through 21 on RFK CERC’s Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) and patients through adulthood in the Adult Literacy Program (ALP). Primary responsibilities will focus on diagnostic and intervention needs. The psychologist will be responsible for conducting psychological/psychoeducational evaluations for diagnostic clarification and to assist with educational and treatment planning. Therapeutically, the psychologist will use evidence-based therapeutic techniques and evidenced-based multi-sensory academic remediation strategies in order to help patients attain their goals. Treatment goals for patients include, but are not limited to, developing a better understanding of one’s disability, improving self-esteem, decreasing anxiety, improving self-monitoring skills, as well as, improving academic competency.

There will be opportunities to supervise psychology externs.

There are numerous opportunities to attend and present at a variety of lectures and presentations.

 

Qualifications/ Education of Applicants:
Completion of Ph.D. or Psy.D. from a psychology graduate program

Successful completion of pre-doctoral internship

NYS License, required

Experience with learning disabilities/neurodevelopmental disabilities, preferred

Bilingual (Spanish and English) strongly encouraged
