RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

PhD to work with the clinical development and research laboratory. The main focus of this individual is to work with Pathology laboratory directors to develop new diagnostic assays for clinical use. Many of these assays will fall under the guidelines of lab developed tests (LDTs) within NYS and will require a significant amount of validation work. Examples of such work include development of genetic tests, for hematological and other malignancies, which are not commercially available. Development of tests for the rapid detection of infectious diseases including SARs COV2 testing. Validating alternate body site for testing, for example saliva for SARS COV2 on high throughput platforms.

This position will allow us to develop and provide cutting edge diagnostics.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise molecular/genomic testing start up and development projects in collaboration with all divsions of Pathology, to include but not limited to, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, GI and Liver and Women's Health
  • Assist the lab management team in building high quality molecular/genomic testing services for the department of Pathology
  • Assist in the development and validation of molecular assays in conjunction with the appropriate Lab Director
  • Lead and guide medical technologists in assay design and review from pilot experimentation through laboratory implementation
  • Prepare/process specimens and operate molecular testing equipment/analyzers to report molecular laboratory results
  • Develop, write and/or modify assay applications, policies and procedures for molecular/genomic testing including lab developed tests for NYS submission
  • Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of Director and as required
  • Keep the minimum requirement for Continuing Education
  • Assists with the training of new employees

 

 Qualifications: 

  • PHD - Molecular Biology, Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology required
  • 1-year post PhD: PCR, probe technology, sequencing, assay development
