This secretary will administratively support the Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy Program [OPAT] by providing clerical services and interacting with many levels – i.e. with families, patients and referral sources. This individual will manage OPAT emails for patient referrals into the program and will contact the referring provider for additional information when needed. S/he will schedule patients for OPAT initial and follow up visits as per guidelines of the program. S/he will be able to identify and obtain any missing items needed for the visit [ex. Lab results]. S/he will outreach to the patient/family emphasizing the importance of keeping appointments. S/he will make confirmation calls prior to the date of appointments and will ensure that any payer referrals, prior authorizations, or updated insurance information is on file. S/he will assist with maintaining a patient care database to track current patient enrollment and overall volume. May work at multiple locations when needed. Knowledge of Epic if preferred. Able to multi-task and easily navigate between systems.


Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Health care experience, training in third party billing and PC based automated word processing and other programs.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of payer billing procedures and coordination of benefits experience required.
  • Knowledgeable of medical terminology and how to use printers, computers, fax and copiers.
  • Knowledge of the Windows environment.
  • Must be able to handle telecommunication equipment of advanced sophistication.
