SENIOR CLERK

BRONX, NY, US


Montefiore Behavioral Health Center provides comprehensive services for emotionally troubled individuals and integrated substance abuse treatment, while promoting the mental health of all community residents.  Treatment is provided with dignity and respect by highly skilled professionals, board-certified in psychiatry. The Senior Clerk performs diversified and moderately complex clerical duties. Prioritizes assignments to insure effective clerical procedures. May train lower level clerical staff.  Performs related work as required to maintain clinic functioning.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Screen and respond to telephone inquiries. Review referrals from outside agencies. Research and prepare data in response to routine inquiries and assists administrator to prepare complex reports. Respond to requests for information
  • Registration of new intakes and daily registration. Create accounts, collect demographic information, insurance information, general reason for referral, and facilitate completion of intake documents. Verification of insurances in Treks
  • Format and prepare information for reports or bills using PC based word processing or spreadsheet software systems. Enter data and audit for accuracy and completeness. To facilitate the management and transfer or information. Maintain logs for regulatory agency
  • Perform patient billing activities including interviewing patients, analyzing patient financial status, tracking authorization, reviewing and verifying patient insurance coverage, preparing payment plans and receiving and recording payments. Report related to billing pre/post verification of insurance, address alerts, holds and denials
  • Prepare and type routine correspondences, reports and forms to relieve department administrator and staff of administrative detail
  • Perform routine clerical duties, maintain accounts and records, provide phone coverage and distribute mail. Provide clerical support for department that includes ordering supplies, creation of charts, maintaining admission and discharge charts
  • Maintain PC or mainframe databases. Perform technical procedures such as preparing system documentation or running programs. Update and transfer information. Troubleshoot minor software or hardware problems making sure department databases are accurately maintained and systems function effectively
  • Utilize PC based word processing and spreadsheet software to design forms and reports and store and retrieve information. Enhance departments capability to access and process information and improve interoffice electronic communication
  • Set up initial intakes for clinic that includes triage of all calls from referral sources. Provide application for review to Clinic Assistant Director. Liaison with sub specialty mental health programs. Maintain all intake logs
  • Process request for information. Review authorizations for compliance

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Minimum of one year of clerical or health care experience. 
  • Training in PC base automated word processing systems and spreadsheet programs and PC or mainframe database management programs.
  • Ability to type 45 words per minute required
  • Ability to operate automated office equipment and utilize PC based software for office applications
  • Knowledge of customer relation skills and communication techniques required to interact effectively with patients throughout the lifespan
