The Department of Pathology at Montefiore Medical Center is one of the largest and most comprehensive medical center laboratories on the east coast. With a staff of nearly 700 associates and more than 50 pathologists and PhDs, our laboratories perform more than 10 million laboratory test results, interpretations, and diagnostic consultations each year. Pathology is recruiting for a Senior Laboratory Helper to prepare pathological slides for diagnostic procedures.



  • Maintenance of tissue processor and H&E stainer. Prepare solutions (chemical reagents) to ensure Correct histological processing
  • File paraffin blocks daily and for long term storage.   Retrieval of paraffin block from storage area
  • Process request from Pathologists to ensure that work order is complete
  • Matching Pathology protocol with histological slides
  • Record equipment maintenance to ensure proper operation of equipment. (Tissue processor and stainer)
  • Removal waste chemicals from laboratory to chemical storage area (1-gallons)
  • Label and sign out slides to assure accurate distribution
  • Pulling paraffin blocks matching with request slip
  • Must keep the workflow going and decide how to handle specimens when faced with down time of robotic unit with a capacity of working independently



  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Knowledge of proper operation of specified equipment, procedure for Histology workflow
  • Must have experience with H & E Stainer, Tissue Processor, Computers, Embedding Unit


This position is located at the Moses campus in the Surgical Pathology lab. The hours are Monday-Friday 12:00pm - 8:30pm.
