Summary of opportunity

Montefiore, an integrated academic health system in New York, is seeking a Senior Manager in its Strategic Planning Department. Working with leaders across the organization, this person will lead multidisciplinary teams in the development of goals, strategies and tactics in line with Montefiore’s overall strategic objectives. The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of progressively challenging health system or management consulting work experience, a Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MHA, MPA, MPH) from a top-tier institution, excellent project leadership skills, sound business and strategic judgment, a proven capacity for quantitative analysis, and clear passion for provider-side health care.


About the role

This high-profile role will oversee, develop and collaborate on projects that advance Montefiore’s strategic objectives and relationships. The individual will lead a group of Strategic Planning analysts and partner with clinical and administrative leadership to advance service line strategies, physician engagement and medical staff development strategies, and ambulatory strategy development.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively with Operations, Finance, and other members of the Strategic Planning team to develop plans that advance Montefiore’s strategic objectives.
  • Collect and assess qualitative and quantitative information, research best practices, and support Montefiore’s status as an innovative, cutting-edge integrated academic health system.
  • Develop reports and presentations providing strategic insights and tactical recommendations that support decision-making.
  • Track outcomes and status of work products related to partnerships.
  • Support strategic partnerships with external entities.
  • Oversee the work of analysts on a project basis, while helping them to grow and advance .


The Senior Manager should be comfortable talking with external individuals, be detail oriented, be comfortable working with problems associated with operations, be very reliable, quality conscious, and highly organized. Strong research and writing skills are also required, as is the ability to independently tackle discrete projects without day-to-day oversight by more senior members of the Strategic Planning team.


Competencies and Qualifications


  • 5-7 years of experience in a healthcare provider or consulting environment.
  • A Master’s degree in healthcare policy or business management.
  • Experience with and understanding of integrated academic health systems and population health
  • Quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, demonstrated mastery required for projects
  • Fast and accurate writing with ability to present complex information in clear, appealing manner
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail, and an ability to identify and convene senior stakeholders
  • Strong business sense and strategic judgment, and an appreciation of operational realities
  • Great team player, engages others and helps them to grow
