This position is to develop architectures and infrastructure necessary to support RADIOLOGY clinicians and investigators in areas including clinical care optimization, diagnostic efficacy, radiomics, comparative effectiveness research, clinical trials and clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency improvement.

The senior software engineer participates in full-life cycle development informatics projects, architecture design and implementation within the time-line of projects. The senior software engineer collaborates within the engineering and data science teams in designing, implementing, testing and deploying healthcare technology applications and platforms to progress the organization’s mission of utilizing information technology to improve patient care for our patients and population, and to support research and clinical investigations using health information technology, and data science.
The primary focus will be applying state of the art software architectures to build high quality big-data analytics, and data science infrastructure (including Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence ) integrated with EMR (Epic) and other delivery of care processes and operational systems in the field of Radiology.  This will include (but will not be limited to) developing analytics infrastructure  that can support  “machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques”, “predictive models, recommendation systems, and decision support systems”, "early recognition and alerting systems", "image processing and natural language processing systems", “improving and extending our existing platforms for machine learning and predictive modeling”, and developing  “internal QA and validation procedures”. 


The software engineer  is also  responsible for collaboration and communication with all stakeholders and partners in the operational, clinical, and research side as well as technology organizations (Montefiore IT, Center for Health Data Innovations, etc) to ensure requirements are understood correctly, prioritized, translated to the right implementation and delivered on time.


Required background:

  • Master's degree in computer science or software engineering
  • Formal computer science or software engineering education/degree
  • Experience moving software projects through full lifecycle
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in software design and implementation
  • At least 5 years of experience building complex software engineering applications using technologies like Java, J2EE, Spring, SQL and JS.
  • Experience building applications using semantic technologies like RDF/SKOS/OWL 
  • Web application development, object oriented design and programing
  • Experienced and proficient in SOA architecture (SOAP, REST), AJAX, JSON, XML, HTML5
  • Experienced and proficient in GUI frameworks for the web
  • Spring or servlet experience
  • Experience in working within a team environment as a member, facilitator, and mentor. 
  • Experience in working within an AGILE program or project management framework. 
  • Facilitation of sizable groups of engineers for consensus building.



  •  Excellent interpersonal and writing skills to communicate and document user interactions and requirements
  •  Strong analytical skills to analyze, categorize and translate business/user requirements to functional requirements
  •  Strong knowledge of project management fundamentals
  •  Demonstrated ability to take initiative, establish/enhance business analysis procedures and improve operational efficiency
