SUPERVISOR CREATIVE ARTS THERA

BRONX, NY, US


The inpatient program at Montefiore Medical Center focuses on patients who require complex psychiatric evaluations to treat and stabilize their symptoms. Our 22-bed unit treats patients who have a variety of disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and others. The Supervisor of Creative Arts Therapy will plan, organize, implement and supervise a well-rounded therapeutic program based in the creative arts therapies for an inpatient psychiatric population. Supervise members of the treatment team to maximize job performance. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Hire creative arts therapy staff to provide quality therapists to successfully carry out therapeutic program
  • Train creative arts therapy staff to educate and model implementation of therapeutic groups and/or individual sessions
  • Evaluate creative arts therapy staff to educate staff on increasing therapeutic value of groups/individual sessions and improving job performance
  • Provide counseling/warning notice and terminate staff as necessary to ensure proper and effective program implementation
  • Schedule creative arts therapy staff to provide a consistent, clinically appropriate level of therapeutic rehabilitation and care. Participate in providing group coverage as necessary for licensure and regulatory requirements and/or indicated by Manager of Clinical Services
  • Order and maintain supplies and current inventory of materials for programming
  • Utilize knowledge of age differences or population characteristics in providing therapeutic programming to patients
  • Continuous evaluation and adjustment of goals and objectives to offer a clinically up to date and superior therapeutic creative arts therapy program
  • Pass all audits by NYSOMH, NYCMHMR&AS, JCAHO and other regulatory agencies by maintaining constant compliance with regulatory obligations

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Music Therapy or Drama Therapy required
  • NY State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with current registration required
  • National Registration and Board Certification in one creative arts therapy modality (art, dance/movement, music or drama therapy) required
  • A minimum 3 years work experience is required
  • Direct practice in creative arts therapy or related field with experience in rehabilitation counseling with a psychiatric population preferred. Supervisory experience preferred
  • Clinical application of psychotherapeutic techniques in creative arts therapy within at least one discipline (art, dance/movement, music, or drama therapy).
  • Practice in leading therapeutic psychoeducational and creative arts based groups
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and awareness of transference/countertransference within a therapeutic relationship
  • Knowledge of current DSM psychiatric diagnosis and appropriate clinical interventions applicable to acute inpatient psychiatric care within the scope of practice for licensed creative arts therapists in New York State.
  • Proficiency in word processing, Microsoft operating systems and programs
