The Associate Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of small to moderate size projects of low complexity through all of the defined phases of the project life cycle. This includes implementations of new clinical and business applications, system upgrades, application rollouts, and infrastructure and networking projects. The Associate Project Manager can complete tasks either alone or with assistance from a Project Manager or a Sr. Project Manager.  The Associate PM may also work with more experienced Project Managers on larger projects in order to gain skills required to advance.


The Associate Project Manager typically reports to a Project Manager and during a project execution interacts with the Project Office, Client Executives, Product Managers, and customers. He/she manages a cross-functional team of product experts and associates while they are assigned to a project. External consultants, contracted resources, and customer employees may also report in to project teams during the project lifecycle. The Associate Project Manager provides outstanding client service and contributes to the organization’s mission of utilizing information technology to improve patient care. 



  • The Associate Project Manager will develop the project work plan, WBS and schedule using a designated project management tool for project team usage. Project Plans include sufficient task level detail. 
  • Develop customer ROI metrics for project, based on customer objectives.
    • Convey customer objectives to product team, to ensure support for ongoing needs.
  • Management of all projects assigned to oversee:
    • Utilize effective project and time management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Coordinate and review with the customer senior management on a regular basis with formal oversight meetings.
  • Manages the day-to-day activities of cross-functional project teams. 
    • Deploy best practices approach defined by Project Services team utilizing software package supported by the PMO.
  • Works to control change, adjust the budget, timeline, and project scope to accommodate approved changes.
    • Provides project schedule, actual vs. budget, and earned value information in project progress reports.
  • Produces timely, detailed summaries and high level reports to provide necessary information to key stakeholders within the organization.
  • Ensures proper quality assurance and user acceptance of solutions prior to implementation.
    • Reviews and finalizes deliverables and monitors quality control.
  • Develops and maintains all strong working relationships with all key stakeholders including, Client Executives, Product Managers, and Resource Allocation Manager. 
  • Collaborate with Resource Allocation Manager to ensure associates with required skills are available to support the implementation of new system solutions.
  • Management of all resources assigned to projects. 
    • Proactive identification of project and staff related issues.
    • Maintains strong working relationships with direct reports and fosters a culture of teamwork.
    • Participate in performance appraisals and contribute to project team associate’s performance appraisals.
  • Montefiore IT Health is a professional services organization with a matrix reporting structure. Associate’s roles may differ depending on the project, however, position and title remains the same.
  • Identifies and mitigates project risk, keeping issues visible ensuring issues are resolved before they impact the success of the project.



  • Knowledge of the IT industry and managing all phases of multi-faceted IT projects including planning, cost management, resource management, communications, and quality measurement.
  • Infrastructure and Systems implementations in the clinical and business application areas are preferred
  • Demonstrated formal project management methodology experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management planning tools. Experience with CA Clarity preferred
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams/matrix management
  • Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to effectively communicate within all levels of the organization and with the client base
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, highly analytical and possess strong problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to enforce deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Project coordination or management experience including experience in implementation management
  • Healthcare experience preferred.



Bachelor’s degree OR  Equivalent Experience

PMP or CAPM preferred
