Montefiore Medical Center's Department of Pathology operates the most technologically advanced diagnostic systems, analyzing approximately three and a half million specimens per year. Our laboratories provide a wide range of testing services to patients.


The Senior Statistical Clerk is responsible in assisting in all pre and post analytical processes of the laboratory. The individual is responsible for specimen receipt, specimen processing (such as aliquoting and centrifuging), order entry of tests into the computer system, generate of medical record numbers and other patient registration related activities. Expected skills of typing a minimum of 35 words per minute. The individual performs general clerical and maintenance duties. The associate is involved in the preparation and delivery of specimens.



  • Search and/or register patients in clinical information system to obtain medical record number, verification of insurance and other registration activities
  • Receive, open, and process blood and body fluids specimens. Prepare aliquot tubes when necessary; centrifuge specimens
  • Review all laboratory requisitions prior to ordering testing and label specimens specific to the clinical lab guidelines in the LIS system, including STAT's and add-ons
  • Order tests in various electronic ordering systems, such as the following but not limited to:
  • Laboratory information system (LIS)
  • Clinical information system (CIS)
  • Reference lab ordering systems (i.e. Quest360 and Viracor)
  • Attach barcode labels to samples, aliquot samples as required, centrifuge when needed, and deliver to proper workstations or laboratories
  • Report panic values, call appropriate location and document activities
  • Responsible for delivery and/or pickup of selected items from other sites in the hospital, under the supervision of a superior
  • Answer phone inquiries. Obtain information for patient care when required and respond to customers appropriately
  • Responsible for training other staff
  • Keep track of supplies necessary for preparing and testing of specimens. Unpack deliveries of supplies, label and date properly, store at the correct temperatures
  • Clean glassware, pipettes, test tube racks, and empty waste containers as required. Clean laboratory tabletops and drawers, necessary to maintain proper workplace environment
  • Perform Reference Lab workflow, inclusive of accessioning in the Reference Lab System (if/when applicable), centrifuging and aliquoting specimens, preparing manifest lists, and preparing the specimens for pickup
  • Performs other non-technical support tasks under the direction of a supervisor when required




  • High School Diploma/GED required, Associate’s Degree preferred
  • A minimum 6 months + work experience required
  • Ability to use laboratory and clinical information, operate and maintain label printers
  • Typing a minimum 35 WPM is required
  • Good communicational and organizational skills


This position is located in the Yonkers call center in Yonkers. The hours are 12:00 am - 8:30 am Saturdays and Sundays.
