The Bilingual Community Health Coordinator (CHC) plays a vital role in promoting health education and engagement within school communities as part of the Montefiore School Health Program (MSHP). This position focuses on outreach, enrollment, and delivering health education programs to ensure students and families have access to essential healthcare services. The CHC will work closely with school staff, students, and community stakeholders to foster a culture of wellness and health equity. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate public health professional to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of the Bronx community. 

The candidate will:

•    Facilitate classroom-based health education lessons on various health topics, including sexual and reproductive health education, as well as condom and birth control demonstrations.
•    Lead MSHP tabling, STI testing drives, health center tours, vision screenings, and other health promotion initiatives.
•    Conduct a high volume of in-person, telephonic, and virtual outreach activities to educate school communities about MSHP’s school-based health center (SBHC) services.
•    Create promotional materials, bulletin boards, and presentations to increase awareness and utilization of MSHP SBHC services.
•    Complete Family Planning Benefit Program applications with eligible students and collect and enter data for various MSHP projects and grants.
•    Build and maintain school wellness councils, advisory councils, and stakeholder relationships to enhance community engagement
•    Support CHD meetings and events by setting up/cleaning up rooms, taking meeting minutes, ordering food, handling petty cash, assembling incentives, xeroxing, and picking up supplies
•    Perform other duties as assigned by CHD leadership to support MSHP families.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

•    Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Community Health, or a related field.
•    Bilingual in Spanish (written and spoken) is required.
•    1+ years of experience facilitating health education lessons/workshops for youths and/or adults.
•    Strong public speaking skills with the ability to present to small and large groups.
•    Experience and/or high comfort level discussing sexual and reproductive health topics.
•    Able to travel independently between MSHP sites throughout Bronx, NY, and Westchester County, NY.
•    Ability to lift and transport 10-15 lbs of resources for CHD events and to/from storage facilities.
•    Able to work some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the community.

Shift: Monday to Friday 0800A – 0430P 100% On-Site

Associates are eligible to apply for a lateral transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department. Probationary period is six (6) months for full-time employees, and four (4) months for part-time employees who works more than 3/5 of the normal workweek.
