ASSISTANT CHIEF TECHNICIAN RADIOLOGY

This position is responsible for the daily operations of services at the Wakefield Division, to include coordination of assigned staff (Techs, RNs, PAs etc. ), allocation of resources (personnel and equipment)with the goal of effectively managing patient throughput.
Ensures a safe environment with appropriate resources to meet the needs of patients and physicians (Radiologists, Anesthesiologists, PICU MDs) .  Ensures staff training and proficiency in imaging.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure competency of technical staff to insure the quality of imaging meets prescribed standards/protocols.  Periodic review of imaging protocols.  
  • Coordinate activities of all staff. Maintain a system of traffic control.  Insure a balanced flow of patients arriving and leaving the department.  Patients leaving department within a minimal waiting period.  Minimal exam time for procedure.  
  • Assign work schedule and shifts.  Assure adequate staffing of all shifts (techs, PAS, RNS, techs aids, nursing attendants) providing service on a 24 hour basis.  All staff to have a high level of competence is assigned duties.  
  • Train technical staff in all related systems PACS, EPIC, etc.  In the daily operations, it is imperative that the technical staff is proficient in the use of the computers systems.  Periodic observation of workflow processes. 
  • Monitoring exam turnaround time for compliance with order to complete goal.  Monitor on-time start for scheduled outpatients.  Recognize problems which prohibit timeliness and efficiency in patient throughput.   Insure that all inpatients are adequately screened and prepped. Monitor and document reasons for outpatient cancellations and/or delays.  
  • Ensure compliance with Radiation safety and departmental policies and procedures.  Ensure safety of patients and staff, compliance with regulatory agencies; protection of hospital property; maintain high standards of quality.  Performs monthly checks.  Documents and reports finding at monthly QA meetings. 
  • Performs written evaluation of technical staff on an annual basis to insure a high level of performance of the prescribed work standards, and to discuss strong and weak points.  Keeping accurate documentation of employees' job performance.
  • Maintain commitment to not exceed operating budget in dramatically changing economic environment, and constant pressure to use more expensive equipment and drugs. example: controlling the use of premium overtime .
  • Maintaining a safe environment at all times is a complex problem fast paced environment. Physicians are anxious to get diagnostic information on their patients. It can be very difficult scheduling housekeeping services.
     

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's Degree
  • Over 1 year work experience
  • NYSDOH License Radiological Technologist
  • ARRT Registered Radiological Technologist
  • Must be proficient in operating x-ray equipment, pagers, phone etiquette, computer, scanner and printer.
  • Experience with Microsoft excel, Microsoft word and Microsoft outlook required.
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of Radiological Technology and the ability to select and set up exposure factors on x-ray equipment, making x-ray exposures, and operate fluoroscopy equipment under the supervision of a physician. Knowledge of administering non-intravenous contrast media pursuant to a physician's order, performing quality control tests, and intravascular contrast media injection by individuals DOH certified in the administration of contrast media.  
  • Utilizes knowledge to address the needs and behaviors of identify age-specific difference and response to patients rights,  basic needs, physical motor/ sensory, cognitive differences,  psychosocial development, and vulnerabilities. 
     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 1 year leadership experience
  • Experience with Talent Management, Midas, EZ time, Epic, PACS, okQA
