Montefiore Medical Center, Department of Anesthesiology is in search of a full-time Board-Certified Anesthesiologist to join their leadership team as Chief/Site Director of Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (SLC) Campus.  The SLC campus consists of 8 operating rooms, GI and Cath Labs, Interventional Radiology and OB Suites.  Currently there are 12 CRNAs and supervision of up to 4 CRNAs at a time will be expected.  Practice of full spectrum of in and outpatient Anesthesia including, but not limited to Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Cardiac, Breast Surgery, Colon and Rectal, Plastic and Reconstructive, Urology, Neurosurgery, Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck, Thoracic, Trauma, Gynecological Oncology as well as several other Oncology Surgical Specialties. (28% inpatient/72% ambulatory).  The hospital is a busy practice with more growth potential to be realized. An innovative individual with change management skills is needed to mitigate problems in a professional manner, while achieving the goals of the campus and the department.   The Chief/Site Director will impart scientific leadership and clinical oversight in a challenging environment. This opportunity allows the individual to assert an independent management style to cultivate the growth of the campus and it impact on the community.   The Chief/Site Director of Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall reports to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Montefiore Medical Center

 

Functional Responsibilities

  • The Chief/Site Director will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Department of Anesthesiology’s clinical and administrative activities.  He or she will perform all of the tasks that are necessary for the department to provide quality care and overall patient satisfaction with anesthesiology services at the campus.
  • Assign daily duties and responsibilities to anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and assist them to effectively carry out those duties and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with the nursing and surgical staff to ascertain that the daily operating room schedule runs efficiently.
  • Manage the Pre-anesthesia Evaluation process.
  • Resolve medical issues by evaluating patients and making the final decision to cancel the procedure or to refer for further consultation.
  • Monitor clinical performance to assure compliance with the departmental standards, policies, and procedures; the Joint Commission, Department of Health, OSHA standards
  • Implement Departmental policies and procedures as directed by the Chair
  • Ensure that Attendings and others comply with quality improvement program
  • Address issues reported by the surgical, nursing or administrative staff regarding quality of care, unsafe practices, delivered by staff members and report to the Chair as appropriate
  • Resolve conflicts between staff and surgeons, nurses and ancillary staff in a timely manner
  • Serve as a resource to the anesthesiology Attendings, CRNAs and anesthesiology technicians on various issues
  • Develop knowledge base regarding operating budget and capital equipment needs of the campus
  • Interview and hire MDs and ancillary staff (CRNAs) and administrative support and assign their work schedule/hours, as needed
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the Department’s Leadership Team
  • Support the Department’s goals for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices

 Requirements 

  • MD, DO or foreign equivalent 
  • B/C in Anesthesiology 
  • Minimum of five years’ experience
  • New York state medical license 
  • Demonstration of leadership abilities
  • Reputed to have high ethical standards
  • Must have previous successful leadership experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstration of DEI activities impacting healthcare and the community
