Director of Engineering

 

Director of Engineering will lead operational, financial, programmatic, and personnel activities for Engineering Operations, ensuring alignment with Montefiore Einstein’s strategic goals. Responsible for day-to-day operations, budgeting, and financial management across Weiler campus, Westchester Square campus, Hutch Towers II, and three external properties totaling 1.2 million square feet. Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes, collaborating with stakeholders to set and achieve goals. Prepares reports on financial, clinical, quality, and safety performance. Drives financial improvements and engages staff in progress. Establishes and manages annual budgets, optimizing resource allocation. Enhances Facilities Engineering initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and ensures strong leadership in facilities maintenance and plant operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead coordination across Facilities, Construction, Energy, IT, Security, Real Estate, and Telecom. Oversee project kick-offs and ensure compliance with TJC, NYS DOH, and NYC DOB. Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and leadership to align operations with Montefiore Health programs.
  • Ensure compliance with Environment of Care and Life Safety regulations. Conduct mock surveys, identify gaps, and drive improvements. Oversee facility modifications, ensuring code compliance and timely completion. Manage life safety equipment, risk assessments, and fire safety audits.
  • Optimize maintenance with proactive asset management. Develop preventative maintenance programs, track schedules, and minimize downtime using a CMS work order system.
  • Enhance safety and staff development through annual training programs. Manage recruitment, onboarding, and performance to boost productivity and job satisfaction.
  • Oversee budgets, inventory, and vendor relations to ensure cost efficiency. Conduct audits for financial and operational compliance.
  • Foster collaboration with stakeholders, set clear project expectations, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Be ready to respond to campus emergencies and ensure operational excellence.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience & Leadership: 7+ years in higher education, hospital, or research facilities with increasing responsibilities; 5+ years in a managerial role; Experience managing union employees.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of facility construction and building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, emergency power, roofs, facades). Experience managing inventory.
  • Project & Operations Management: Proven ability to lead, prioritize, and meet deadlines while delivering projects on time and within budget. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Regulatory & Licensing (Preferred): Professional Engineer License, FDNY CAT, Q01 Refrigeration Engineer.
  • Innovation & Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with advancements in facilities management and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, relationship-building, and ability to work independently or collaboratively. Self-motivated with a proactive mindset.

 

Location: Bronx, New York

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM-5 PM

Salary: $135,000.00 to $185,000.00
