Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for the direction and leadership of operational, financial, programmatic and personnel activities for Engineering Operations. This includes establishing, meeting and continuously monitoring the goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for Montefiore Einstein.

The Director is responsible for the day- to-day operations, budgeting and financial management for the Weiler campus, Westchester Square campus, Hutch Towers II, and the 3 outside houses totaling 1.2 million square feet. It includes developing and managing operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.

Formulates objectives, goals and strategies collaboratively with other stakeholders.

Prepares and delivers reports to operational leadership outlining progress towards meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality and safety. Actively seeks opportunities to improve financial outcomes, engaging staff in the progress. Establishes an annual operating and capital budget, demonstrating fiscal responsibility through meeting budget targets. Directs and provide guidance to managers to effectively allocate resources based on patient volume, space availability, budget constraints, and program priorities, goals and objectives. Ensures development of Facilities Engineering initiatives to improve patient satisfaction. This position will ensure prompt and exceptional leadership to the facilities maintenance and plant operations.

 

Responsibilities:

Initiate and manage formal Facilities coordination meetings and project kick-off meetings with design and Construction, Energy sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety, IT, Security, Real Estate and Telecom. Coordinate work with the support department as per scope to maintain operations and within compliance with TJC, NYS DOH, NYC DOB. Communicates with physicians, nursing department leaders, and senior administrators to maintain coordination with other Montefiore Health programs.

Provide oversight and leadership to ensure the facilities are in compliance with all aspects of The Joint Commission’s Environment of Care and Life Safety regulations including the Utility Management program. Conduct mock surveys to identify gaps in compliance and areas for improvement.

Continually assess all services and areas and ensure improvements are made to maintain all regulatory standards, including those set by CMS, DOH, DOB, FDNY, EPA and others. In collaboration with internal and external constituents, plan and supervise installation and modifications to the physical plant ensuring changes are made within code requirements and is completed timely and within planned scope.

Managing and maintaining life safety equipment in conjunction with Environmental Health and Safety. Test and diagnose instruments and equipment. Maintain the life safety plans and participate in the planning of the fire risk assessments and fire safety audits.

Oversight of departmental budgets, CMS work order management system and appropriate distribution of resources for the continued maintenance and operations of campus facilities and infrastructure. Manage the PM schedules using the CMS work order system.

Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for the physical plant and facility; adhere to asset preventative maintenance scope and schedules; ensure minimal downtime of campus assets by proactively identifying and correcting preventive maintenance deficiencies.

Initiate safety programs that provide employees with formal training on physical plant equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment while mitigating risk. Confined space training, spill training, equipment training, and lockout/tagout training coordinated with the safety department on an annual basis.

Effectively manage the facilities inventory, to include the development and implementation of a supply management system and operation standards. Ensures appropriate cost controls and management, levels of inventory, and vendor relationships. Oversight of audits to ensure compliance with accounting, management, operation, and hospital standards.

Responsible for the effective management of staff including hiring, on-boarding, professional development and performance assessment. Performance goals help employees understand what’s expected of them and how their work aligns with the company’s goals. They can also help improve employee motivation, productivity, and job satisfaction. Provide regular feedback to employees on their progress so they can make adjustment.  

Maintain a collaborative relationship with all facilities staff and campus constituents. Coordinate weekly meetings with various stakeholders and set clear expectations on facilities projects.

Continually assess services and ensure improvements are made to maintain service delivery standards. Identify areas of opportunity. Analyze existing processes, define the objectives and follow the continuous improvement process.

Perform other duties as assigned; this position should be available to respond to campus emergencies, as necessary.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Masters preferred)

  • 10 years of higher education, hospital or research setting with increasing responsibilities;

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a supervisor/managerial role;

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a power plant or steam plant.

  • Professional Engineer License (Preferred)

  • FDNY CAT, Q01 Refrigeration Engineer (Preferred).

  • Knowledge of facility construction and building systems, including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and emergency power systems, roofs, building facades, and their associated operation and maintenance.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, set priorities, and meet deadlines, in addition to completing all assigned projects on time and within budget while maintaining Montefiore's commitment to exceptional quality.

  • Demonstrated experience with supervising union employees.

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills .

  • Familiarity with current developments in facilities management and the ability to conscientiously seek out innovative and creative ways of delivering services.

  • Experience in managing inventory.

  • Must be a self-motivated individual who can work independently and in a team environment.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills.
