INTERNIST/FAMILY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
BRONX, NY, US
The Division of Hematology is seeking general Internists/Family Medicine physicians to take care of their population of sickle cell patients. Our Sickle Cell population has grown enormously in the 6 years since inception. Our patients need physicians who can care for them wholistically, who can worry about their cholesterol and their crises, who understand that their renal failure can be from sickle cell anemia and their hypertension. and who will follow them through pregnancy and menopause. We need physicians who are clinically oriented and eager to be involved in academics, teaching and clinical research.
To this end, we are starting a new program that will highlight the role that sickle cell anemia plays for our patients while still ensuring that patients’ associated morbidities, psychosocial environment and general medical care are cared for optimally. The candidate should have interest and experience in working with a population that has a number of economic, health and educational disparities.
This physician will be responsible for:
- Seeing patients in designated sickle program clinics on both campuses. This involves direct overall care, as well as oversight of 2 NPs
- Consulting on inpatient sickle cell patients for routine issues with an ability to refer to the subspecialty service when needed
- Participating in clinic trials, both industry and NIH/PCORI funded.
- Mentoring residents in clinic, in (typically unfunded) resident studies – both interventional and non-interventional.
- Interacting with the general Hematology Service, the Thrombosis Program and with Transfusion Medicine.
- Attending those conferences (case presentation, journal club, clinical pathology conferences, grand rounds) as they pertain to sickle cell disease.
Salary and academic rank for this position will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and academic background. Einstein/Montefiore offers an excellent benefits and compensation package including competitive salary base with productivity incentive, dedicated professional development funds, retirement matching and investment options, etc.
