Under the direct supervision of the RN and Site Leadership and reporting to Women's Health Leadership, the Licensed Practical Nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team by assisting in planning and implementing care interventions while promoting high quality patient care in a professional, efficient, safe manner. The LPN participates in performance improvement/research activities; maintains professional practice, standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills. The LPN demonstrates core and unit specific competencies based on the patient population served and He/she is committed to maintaining the standards of the practice of nursing and is responsible for the delivery of care to the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or elderly patient within their scope of practice to patients that may be experiencing infertility, cancer, high-risk pregnancy, loss of pregnancy, etc... The LPN will assist with the facilitation of the day-to-day patient flow for Women's Health assigned Clinicians, inclusive of medication administration, patient outreach, patient education, high level disinfection and sterilization, phlebotomy (including finger sticks) chaperoning during patient exams, assisting in gynecologic and/or OB procedures (PAP exams, LEEP, Colposcopy, Endometrial Biopsy, Pregnancy Termination/Miscarriage, Amniocentesis among others), and collecting and processing a variety of specimens. Complies with patient right standards and confidentiality; maintains patients’ need for privacy, respect and dignity and advocates for the patient’s well-being and must understand customer service and sensitivity needs of the female patient. 
Please note: This position may travel to the other Women’s Health OB/GYN locations within NYC and Westchester areas (Eastchester, Scarsdale, Bronx East, Kossuth, Brook Avenue, Hartsdale, Wakefield, Weiler and Moses campuses) as needed. 
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30a - 5p (Weekend coverage as needed)
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Performs medication handling and administration per regulatory and institutional policies. 
  • Assists in Joint Commission environmental and practice preparation and readiness initiatives.  
  • Identifies needs and provides appropriate patient education using current practice guidelines. 
  • Explains treatments, procedures, medications, etc. and Clinician instructions to patients and their families. 
  • Performs patient outreach in alignment with patient and departmental needs/goals. 
  • Advocates for the patient by actively listening to their needs, anticipating, identifying and responding to their needs per protocol and escalating as needed.   
  • Monitors the progress of Clinician and rooms patients using appropriate patient identification technique. 
  • Patient prep for Clinician visit obtaining appropriate vital signs, verifying demographic information, and completing screening tools in EMR. 
  • Assesses physical environment and prepares and maintains work areas/patient care areas with supplies including instruments for procedures. Assists with taking inventory, ordering and unboxing/stocking of supplies. 
  • Effectively communicates with the patients and reports changes in patient’s conditions to the Registered Nurse and/or MD. 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the organizational infection prevention standards, patient safety goals and monitors all equipment, supplies and patient care areas for possible unsafe conditions and ensures logs are updated per protocol.  
  • Identifies own learning needs and seeks opportunity to address gaps and attends all mandatory educational sessions either in person or via online learning modules. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the function of and ensures institutional logs including abnormal results, lab & pathology/cytology specimens are updated as per policy. 
Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • New York State License for Practical Nurse and current registration to practice as an LPN in New York State. 
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required 
  • Phlebotomy 
  • Minimum of 1 year LPN preferred 
  • Two to three (2-3) years experience in hands-on patient care role, ambulatory care setting preferred, OB/GYN experience preferred. 
  • Basic Computer knowledge 
  • Effective English communication skills, written, oral and interpersonal.
