Associates are eligible to apply for a transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Probationary period is four (4) months for full-time employees, and six (6) months for part-time employees.

 

 

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) responsibilities will include both inpatient care in the Epilepsy Management Unit, and outpatient care in the child neurology practices, and the Pediatric neuromuscular center/MDA

 

The primary responsibilities for inpatient care may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations, writing admission & discharge notes and orders and daily progress notes on inpatients in the Pediatric Epilepsy Management Unit under the supervision of attending physicians. In the outpatient practices, including the In the MDA (pediatric neuromuscular center),  responsibilities may include ordering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and reviewing results of those evaluations, formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing treatment plans; monitoring the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs and making appropriate referrals, under the supervision of attending physicians. Education and training in general and subspecialty pediatric neurological care (including epilepsy and neuromuscular disease) will be provided as necessary.

 

The NP contributes to the actualization of the philosophy and objectives of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, the pediatric neuromuscular program and the Division of Child Neurology.  He/she practices within the scope of practice in care delivery. He/she participates in performance improvement and research activities and maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise.

 

Requirements

Master's degree in nursing required

New York State License for a Registered Professional Nurse and current registration and permit to practice in NYS as an RN

Current New York State Nurse Practitioner specialty certification and registration

Master=s or post Master=s Certificate in specialty as a nurse practitioner preferred; or a

combination of education and experience that is acceptable to N.Y. State Education Department

and the Director of Nursing and/or Chairman of the Department, or Division Director

National certification in nurse practitioner specialty preferred

5+ years work experience

10 + years experience as an NP, in inpatient & outpatient setting preferred

Pediatric experience required

Knowledge of infusion and/or injectable pharmacological treatments which include bio-therapies in the clinic setting for the pediatric populations
