The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Montefiore Medical Center is recognized as one of the best in the nation. The Senior Security Officer provides security and related assignments to ensure the safety of the Medical Center’s patients, visitors and staff and prevents destructive acts to Medical Center property. Performs perimeter and/or cruise patrols and related duties as required.  

 

Responsibilities:
•    Guards and secures designated entrances/exits to ensure that only patients, employees and authorized visitors enter the facility
•    Monitors flow of patients and visitors into and within facility providing directions to specific authorized destinations (incl. Management of Waiting Area and directing patients to medicating windows.)  
•    Performs Perimeter and Cruiser Patrol (if site applicable) on assigned route in accordance with department guidelines (incl. Loitering patrols).  Inspects alarms in facility
•    Interacts and cooperates with SATP staff to ensure effective communication among staff regarding patient issues
•    Responds to emergency/unusual situations in facility including fires, disturbances, disruptive patients or visitors and other occurrences when assistance is requested or needed by staff according to MMC procedures & policies
•    Checks authorizations to remove M.M.C. property from facility.  Safeguards facility, patient & employee property according to M.M.C.  procedures & policies
•    Investigation of incidents and prepares and submits all required reports according to M.M.C. procedures and policies
•    Exercises constant vigilance in reference to patients, staff & visitors within the facility.  Receives complaints and suggestions from staff, etc. & communicates these responses to supervisor
•    Performs auxiliary support function including but not limited to escort duties where necessary, vehicular traffic control, off hours receipt of packages, information desk duties, coverage at alternate SATP site if needed and transporting people or packages between M.M.C. facilities.  Performs all related duties as assigned by Site Director

 

Qualifications:
•    High school graduation or equivalent required
•    Completion of a New York State approved security guard training program and a current New York State security guard license required 
•    Valid New York State driver’s license required  
•    At least three years of security guard experience or military experience preferred
•    Knowledge of crisis de-escalation and principles of behavior management and/or physical restraint required
•    Knowledge of basic substance abuse and addicted population and Knowledge of visible signs of potential presence of child abuse/neglect preferred

 

The days and hours of the position are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10:30am – 7:00pm &
Saturday 7:00 am – 3:30pm.

 

This is a 100% grant funded position.
