SURGICAL PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

The practice of a physician assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician.
Medical services rendered by the Surgical Physician Assistant for the Department of Surgery  may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting at surgery; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available. The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other institution settings.
In addition to the core skills listed here, PAs, will request validation to perform department specific skills.
This is a Monday–Friday position, scheduled for four shifts per week. Shift hours vary depending on surgical and clinical demands. The role primarily supports the outpatient Plastic Surgery clinic and includes surgical assistance in the operating room 1–2 times per week.
  • Start Times:
    • Operating room days: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
    • Outpatient clinic days: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Travel to other locations may be required based on operational needs. Additionally, the position includes occasional coverage of 1–2 night shifts per year during designated protected resident days.
 
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited Physician’s Assistant program required
Registered as a Physician’s Assistant in New York State required
NCCPA certified required
One year of surgical or plastic surgery experience (including PA residency) preferred 
Candidate must be able and willing to work in a high volume, high paced environment. 
Bilingual preferred
