Within the given restrictions and guidelines of the autopsy consent, under the supervision of the pathologist assistants and pathology resident, proper removing all internal organs including the cranial contents and preparing the deceased for release for the funeral directors. Daily maintenance of the Central 4 Neuropathology cutting room. Daily maintenance of the Autopsy suite, assist in the surgical Path cutting room, organizing and maintenance of all surgical specimen for storage, retrieval and disposal. Additional duties may include morgue duties such as accepting and releasing bodies, transporting amputation specimens from the morgue to the cutting room.  Perform established departmental procedures of Anatomic Pathology in proper and accurate accessioning of surgical specimens received in Surgical Pathology into the Epic Beaker Laboratory information system.

 

Responsibilities:
•    Use established inappropriate evisceration techniques to remove internal organs for autopsy examination
•    Wash autopsy suite and all instruments used after the autopsy examination is completed.  Clean Allis was used in the autopsy in germicide solutions and proper storage
•    Transports autopsy and surgical specimens from foreman for coding room to Hoffheimer 3 for specimen cart rotation and to the morgue for disposal
•    Transporting laboratory materials (slides, blocks and etc.) to and from various locations in MMC(C-2, C-3, C-4 and Foreman 4, Weiler Rooms 3-45,1-134 and 1-135
•    Clerical duties in the Surgical Pathology cutting room.  Perform order entry and update in the LIS (Beaker)
•    Daily maintenance and cleaning of the neuropathology cutting room and cutting stations
•    Perform all routine work, quality control to ensure high standards in the laboratory
•    Maintain autopsy room inventory
•    Organizing/ storage and retrieval of surgical specimens until discarding
•    Transport specimens and supplies from and to the morgue
•    Participation and assisting in organ evisceration and brain removal in autopsy cases
•    Proper disposal of tissue and chemical waste in the cutting room and histology
•    When necessary, able to provide coverage for other staff (Clerks and/or Lab helpers)
•    Perform any other functions as the departmental needs require it

 

Qualifications:
•    High School Diploma/GED required, Associate's Degree preferred
•    Knowledge of the policies and procedures for all Surgical Cutting Room techniques, for all Autopsy techniques, and Knowledge of proper operation of all equipment used in Surgical Cutting Room and autopsy suite are required
•    Must have experience working with Lipshaw Body lift, transport system, Scales (Electronic and Manual), Microwave, Graduate cylinder, Standard autopsy saw (Stryker autopsy saw), Surgical instruments (scissors, scalpel blades and handle, probes, forceps, etc.), Cassette labeling machine Leica  IPC Cassette labeler machine, Electric Bone saw, ( Band saw), Laboratory Information System: Beaker

 

This position is located in Hematology Lab at the Weiler Campus. The hours are 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
