ASSISTANT DIRECTOR NURSING

The Assistant Director of Nursing for Infection Prevention and Control (AND-IPC) maintains standards of the practice for nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and Nursing's Social Policy Statement.  The ADN-IPC actualizes the vision, mission, values, balanced scorecard and performance measures for Montefiore Medical Center.  The ADN-IPC is responsible for the development, coordination, management, execution, and organization of infection prevention-related quality and performance improvement activities at Montefiore Medical Center with a focus on Einstein campus. This includes leadership, project management, education, facilitation and coaching pertinent quality/performance improvement initiatives and assessment of team members productivity regarding infection prevention performance improvement initiatives. This position will lead and support healthcare teams through process improvement activities including project design, project execution/implementation, and sustainability strategies pertaining to infection prevention. The individual maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise, infection prevention expertise, and utilizes performance improvement science. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for assisting with and assessing performance and competency of other team members regarding infection surveillance and education, and will assist with hiring decisions for the department as needed and directed. The individual will also be responsible for performing surveillance and ensuring the quality and timeliness of others' surveillance, consultation, data analysis and interpretation, summary reporting, development and implementation of preventive and control measures based upon published best practices and improvement science, liaison with outside agencies, policy development, and academic activities including research design and implementation. The individual will be responsible for advancing Medical Center and Health System clinical outcomes related to infection prevention and control and quality metrics, and scholarly productivity related to infection prevention and epidemiology.

 

The AND-IPC role models service excellence. He/she participates in performance improvement and research activities; maintains professional practice standards; and demonstrates leadership and management skills. The individual must have strong interpersonal skills, coaching/educational skills, performance improvement experience, and clinical experience in order to effectively lead clinical improvement teams across the organization. Strong logical, analytic and deductive reasoning skills are required. The ADN-IPC is responsible for coordinating administrative issues related to infection prevention and the coordination of fiscal, human and other resources needed to provide patient care services within the medical center as directed.

 

  1. EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
  • New York State Registered Professional Nurse License and current registration.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or related field required.
  • Master of Science degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Experience and/or formal training in infection prevention and clinical performance improvement and patient safety required.
  • Certification in infection control to be obtained in a reasonable period of time and maintained during employment.
  • Documented commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Effective management skills necessary to organize direct and evaluate the activities of infection prevention and patient care off shift operations.
  • Ability to apply and utilize the balanced scorecard measures (customer service, financial, innovation and growth, and performance improvement).
  • Critical thinking and analytic skills necessary for problem solving and clinical decision-making.
  • Computer literacy.
  • American Nurses Credentialing Center Certification in Nursing Administration or Advanced Administration desired.
