ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PATIENT SAFETY

BRONX, NY, US


Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Patient Safety  facilitates the integration of the strategic vision  into clinical practice through collaboration with the local leaders and the support of the Patient Safety Director. The Assistant Director is knowledgeable about the components of a patient safety culture and patient safety science and utilizes this knowledge to advance patient safety at the front lines where care delivery is provided.

 

An integral component in supporting the strategic vision for patient safety is to pro-actively address patient safety issues utilizing data, information from Patient Safety Committees, Executive Rounding and other reports to analyze issues and determine their root causes. Working collaboratively with the  Patient Safety Director participates in developing strategies to prevent patient harm from recurring. Through collaboration and partnerships with staff, the Assistant Director supports the implementation of programs and services that produce measurable improvements in processes and practices that affect patient safety. Ultimately, this should result in less patient harm with an accompanying decrease in costs and severity levels of adverse events.

 

Education Required: Master’s Degree

Work Experience Required: 5 years

Licenses or Certifications required: RN or MD license + CPPS at time of hire or within one year of start

 

Knowledge and skills required:

Clinical experience required.  Candidates must have comprehensive knowledge of healthcare operations with a minimum of five (5) years of healthcare management experience in patient safety or quality improvement in a large and complex environment that includes ambulatory or inpatient care. Certification in quality or risk management and/or a fellowship in patient safety are desirable. Experience in an academic medical center is helpful.   The candidate will have experience working with performance improvement tools and methods, such as PDSA, LEAN techniques, and High Reliability Organizations as well as the ability to present actionable data for improvement projects.  Demonstrated success with program management.  Excellent leadership, communication, presentation skills and the ability to influence required.
