CARDIAC CARE TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists the professional staff by performing a variety of paraprofessional and technical functions which contribute to the safety, care and comfort of adults and geriatric patients their families.

Provides direct and indirect patient care, technical skills and procedures, performs routine secretarial and clerical duties and participates in maintaining the environment.

Provides continuous observation of cardiac monitor tracings of acute cardiac patients. Ensures proper functioning of cardiac monitoring equipment. Interprets and reports cardiac dysrhythmia and initiates

emergency measures when potentially lethal dysrhythmia occur.

 

Education, Training & Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Director of Nursing. Emergency Department positions require EMS training (Level I) or medical corpsmen experience.
  • Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training program, competency based orientation and Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia Rhythm (BDR) training preferred.
