CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST A

BRONX, NY, US


Assists in various types of surgical procedures. Prepares operating rooms, arranges the necessary supplies and equipment, and passes instruments to surgeons. Transports patients to operating rooms or other designated areas.

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
It is expected that all Surgical Technicians will function as members of a team dedicated to support thehighest quality care and service to our patients, physicians and other associates. As an integral part of theteam, the Surgical Technician is responsible to scrubs for and assists in various types of surgicalprocedures and provides the necessary instrumentation, supplies and equipment for operations. The Surgical technician assists in nursing care activities under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
•High School graduate or equivalent
•Completion of an operating room/surgical technologist course and comprehensive orientation is required, (graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program is preferred).
•CST certification required

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATION:
Demonstrates competency and knowledge related/but not limited to the use of:
Laser Surgery equipment/Nitrogen and electricity powered surgical hand tools
Operating microscope
Video equipment and related hardware
Electorsurgical units for operating hemostasis
Multiple instrument types which vary by surgical section, including
Micro and specialty instruments
Surgical operating systems for cases such as Total Joint arthroplasty, or Spinal Rodding
Laparoscopic equipment
Stents

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods of time. Must demonstrate dexterity. Must be able to work under pressure and stress for prolonged periods of time. Requires the ability to accept frequent interruptions from multiple sources. Must be able to lift and/or move heavy objects (less than 100 pounds) occasionally.
