LABORATORY SUPERVISOR

The Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Laboratory Supervisor oversees and manages daily laboratory operations to ensure the highest quality of patient care while meeting regulatory and compliance standards. Supervisory oversight includes laboratory staff performance, interactions, and quality of work. Clinical management includes maintaining proper equipment operation, new test implementation, troubleshooting and resolving laboratory issues, correcting errors, and documenting quality control, resulting in efficient, timely and highest quality IHC slide production. Laboratory staff report directly to the IHC lab supervisor, who in turn reports to the Medical Director of the IHC laboratory. The IHC lab supervisor may also interact with other clinical staff, including physicians, other laboratory supervisors and managers, the Assistant Anatomic Pathology Director, Pathology department administrative staff, and staff in other departments as appropriate.
 
Responsibilities:
•    Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory in accordance with departmental goals and objectives. Conduct basic data analysis to monitor the lab operation and performance. 
•    Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies requirements. Review quality control data as required. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for IHC processes 
•    Ensure compliance with institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures
•    Manage human resources: recruit, discipline, orient and train new staff members. Evaluate staff for competency and performance.  Schedule and assign staff as needed
•    Promote a respectful work environment in accordance with Montefiore Excellence standards of respect
•    Investigate and follow up on issues, problems and complaints as brought up lab staff, management, and clinical staff. Trouble shoot technical issues and resolve them in a timely manner
•    Material management to ensure that reagent and supplies are acquired and in stock
•    Provide ongoing training and education to lab staff to keep them up to date with best practices and enhance their technical skills
•    Collaborate with pathologists and researchers to assist in research projects and publications
•    Other duties as assigned by management

 

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor's Degree required
•    2 years of Work Experience Required
•    NYS DOE Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or Histotechnologist license is required.  ASCP registration or equivalent desirable
•    Knowledge of Laboratory and hospital information system computers, Variety of automated equipment, Laboratory equipment, and digital Pathology systems are required

 

The schedule for the Laboratory Supervisor Immunohistochemistry (IHC) position is Monday – Friday 9 AM-5:30 PM
