The Research Nurse Practitioner (NP) helps actualizes the vision, mission, values, and goals of the Montefiore AIDS Center's research unit, the Montefiore AIDS Center's clinical mission, and Montefiore Medical Center.  The NP is a key member of the AIDS Center's research team; assesses and provides care to a selected group of patients in collaboration with physicians; carries out the plan of care for their patient panel; participates in performance improvement activities; maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills.  The NP demonstrates core and unit specific competencies based on the patient population served. 
The NP's research duties include responsibility for a cohort of research volunteers and conducting the following:  outreach and education to potential study participants, the informed consent process, patient interviews and surveys per protocol-defined study visits, guiding health-care providers and research staff on protocol-required follow-up, adverse event assessment and reporting, administration of investigational product by IM/IV/SC/PO route and related activities, data extraction/collection/input, triaging study subject-reported complaints and symptoms/signs (in person, by phone, by electronic capture) per protocols and nursing standards, evaluating study subjects with complaints including exams and study procedures as needed, working to improve study subject adherence and retention to protocol procedures and follow-up, performing phlebotomy and other specimen collection per protocols, and assisting other research staff with examinations, specimen collection, specimen preparation, and shipping.  Also participates as an active member in team meetings, protocol flow improvement and QI/QA; documents all study activities accurately and in a timely way per protocols and GCP/FDA/ICH/NIH standards.



  • Master's Degree with Nurse Practitioner Specialty Required 
  • 3 years of related work experience 
  • Women's Health Training Required 
  • NYS License for Registered Professional Nurse and current registration or valid permit to practice in New York State as an RN. 
  • Current NYS NP certification and registration 
  • Masters or post Masters Certificate in specialty as a nurse practitioner; or a combination of education and experience that is acceptable to N.Y, State Education Department and the Director of Nursing and/ or Chairman of the Department, or Division Director. 
  • National certification in nurse practitioner specialty (ie: ANCC or AANP) required.  
  • Effective English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to use data entry and retrieval system 
  • At least two years of clinical trials or other human research experience.
  • Phlebotomy, intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection, and intravenous medication administration and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate as a research team member.  
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail a must.
  • Strong familiarity with GCP, ICH, FDA, and federal requirements around human research and clinical trials
  • Experience successfully recruiting study subjects into clinical trials or other research including obtaining informed consent
  • Experience following study subjects per protocol and performing study-related procedures and data/documentation requirements
  • Familiarity assessing for and documenting/reporting adverse events per protocols
  • Experience documenting study information in paper and/or electronic case report forms or other data capture systems
  • Ability to work in full PPE including N95 mask as needed for infection control purposes
  • Performs pelvic examinations, Pap smears, colposcopy, IUD and implantable contraceptive insertion, STD screening and treatment, menopausal counseling, cancer screening, and other aspects of women's health care
  • Conversational or higher level Spanish speaking skills preferred
