NURSE PRACTITIONER

BRONX, NY, US


The NP will join a growing Pediatric Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program that offers treatment for malignant diseases, non-malignant diseases including sickle cell disease, CAR T-cell therapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, diagnosis and treatment of bone marrow failure disorders, and long term follow up after transplant and cellular therapy treatments. The NP will provide outpatient care to pediatric patients early in the recovery phase after transplant or cellular therapy, patients with transplant-related complications, and patients who are being monitored for late effects after transplant.  Other patient groups include those undergoing consultation for consideration of transplant/ cellular therapy and those who are undergoing diagnostic work up for possible bone marrow failure. 

 

In this position the NP will:

-Work collaboratively with the attending physician and the entire interdisciplinary team in the outpatient clinic and infusion center to develop and implement therapeutic plans of care for this group of patients and ensure communication with family members.

-Order customary and specialized laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiate between normal/abnormal findings and follow protocols for abnormal findings, in collaboration with the attending physician.

-Coordinate care across the continuum of services, e.g. appointments with TCT physicians, appointments with subspecialists, home care, other facilities, etc.

-Prescribe outpatient medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribe medical equipment, devices, outpatient therapies, and home health services per practice protocol.

-Ensure coordination of care at transitions - from outpatient to inpatient as through the clinic or emergency department OR from inpatient to outpatient as upon discharge from the transplant admission.

 

 

Qualifications

Current New York State Nurse Practitioner specialty certification and registration.

Masters or post Masters Certificate in specialty as a nurse practitioner preferred; or a combination of education and experience that is acceptable to N.Y. State Education Department and the Director of Nursing and/or Chairman of the Department, or Division Director.

National certification in nurse practitioner specialty (ie: ANCC, AACP or NAPNAP) preferred.

Additional education as required by specialty/patient care location

  • Prefer 3 years - Pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Experience
  • Prefer experience managing acute and chronic care in pediatric patients
  • Prefer APHON Chemotherapy. Biotherapy course or ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course
  • CPCN or CPHON certification preferred.

        Effective English communication skills, both written and oral

        Ability to use data entry and retrieval system
