NURSE PRACTITIONER-WAKEFIELD

We invite you to have an opportunity to join our newborn services team as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at the Montefiore Wakefield Campus. Montefiore Wakefield has approximately 1,300 births each year, including a percentage of high-riskinfants in need of specialized neonatal care and a 15-bed level 3 NICU. There is advanced technology available, including high-frequency mechanical ventilation and nitric oxide.

 

Summary of Position:

 

  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members.
  • Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting.
  • Facilitate the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g., home care, other facilities, appointments with physicians etc.
  • Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
  • Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients in the newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care unit.
  • Order customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending physicians or with the collaborating physician.
  • Formulate the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay.
  • Prescribe in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
  • Do procedures that include, but are not limited to endotracheal intubation, newborn resuscitations, IV insertions, central line insertions and circumcisions.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Licensure: Current New York State license/registration as a Nurse Practitioner; Drug Enforcement Authority (DEA) registration; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Master's Degree in Nursing; Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner Competence
  • Relevant clinical nursing practice in the care of the patient population served.
  • Three years of neonatal experience as an RN/NP preferred
  • Must be able to perform procedures such as intubation, intravenous insertion and central lines, circumcision, newborn resuscitation.
