PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Department of Family Medicine is seeking a Part-time Physician Assistant ("PA") to work under the direct supervision of assigned Family Medicine/Palliative Medicine Attending Physicians in a designated Inpatient Palliative Care Unit. The PA will render direct patient care in all areas of the inpatient service including but not limited to: obtaining patient history, performing physical examinations, ordering and evaluating appropriate laboratory, radiographic and electrocardiographic studies when appropriate.

 

The PA will make diagnostic assessments, begin management plans, and communicate with patients and families. He/she will also assist in the medical management of patients admitted under hospice care, assist the attending physician within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice, counsel and instruct patients and their families, render appropriate care when an attending physician is unavailable and document all care rendered in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The PA is required to participate in in-service training in Palliative Medicine. PA’s with previous inpatient experience and who have an interest in joining this field are strongly encouraged.

 

Please note: This position is a 0.5 rotating shift/ must be able to cover opposite shift if needed.

 

Education/skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree coupled with two (2) years work experience required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician’s Assistant program
  • Registered as a Physician’s Assistant in New York State
  • NCCPA certified
  • Oncology and/or Medicine inpatient experience preferred.
