SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Position will perform diagnostic pulmonary function testing (PFT) including patient assessment, arterial blood gases, administration of respiratory care medications and initiate, regulate and monitor the use of oxygen therapy. In addition management of patient with tracheostomy and home ventilators.
Provide respiratory support and education to patients with abnormalities of cardiopulmonary function as needed.
This position will provide continuous care to our pediatric patients with asthma, lung disease and during chemotherapy.
We perform in-office spirometry as part of Pulmonary visit to all children ages 5 to 21 years of age.
Spirometry and Pulmonary function testing are an essential diagnostic tools used to diagnose , treat and monitor the pulmonary function of our patients. In addition to Spirometry, we have had an increase in the number of specialty pulmonary function testing performed.
Pulmonary function testing is essential to the Children hospital. We provide testing for children with lung disease, pre-surgical and pre-chemo therapy. We also provide services to other divisions in the children hospital, such as Hematology, Cardiology, Orthopedic, Otolaryngology and Rheumatology.
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an AMA Respiratory Program or Certificate of completion from an AMA accredited program.
Current NYS Respiratory Therapist License. CRT, RRT or Registry Eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care. (CRT may perform procedures under the supervision of an RRT).
Current BLS by the American Heart Association.
One - two years of experience in Respiratory Therapy preferred.
Four day work week varies, M-F, 37.5 hours (three days 7a-530p and one 7a-5p).
