STAFF NURSE I/II

BRONX, NY, US

The Registered Nurse actualizes the vision, mission, values, balanced scorecard performance measures for Montefiore Medical Center.
The RN participates in performance improvement/research activities; maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills. The RN demonstrates core and unit specific competencies based on the patient population served.

 

As an integral part of the Faculty Practice with various pediatric specialties, the RN will facilitate the  flow of practice as directed by clinical and administrative leadership. RN will provide direct patient care within scope of practice ; provide phlebotomy and Point of Care Testing ; assign and review work of subordinate staff; review, monitor and order medication from Pharmacy; establish par levels and review and order medical supplies as necessary. Provide patient phone triage, referral coordination and obtain prior authorizations for procedures and medicine.

 

In addition, the responsibilities of the employee will include but not limited to:  (1) Providing administrative assistance for the division including filling clinical paperwork and contacting insurance companies and their liaisons for the purposes of obtaining prior authorization for medications, diabetes supplies and imaging for our patients.  (2) Responding to and taking calls from patients and medical institutions as well as schools with regards to medical documentation.  (3) Providing occasional diabetes education and nursing support in the inpatient and/or outpatient setting. 

 

Requirements:

New York State License for Registered Professional Nurse and current registration or valid permit to practice in New York State as an R.N.
 Associate degree preferred and 3 years clinical experience, two of which must be in the specialty or related service; or combination of education and experience acceptable to Clinical Director of Nursing or designee.
Effective English communication Skills, both written and oral . Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems.
CDE certification and training and experience with EPIC electronic medical record are preferred. BLS , Infection Control Training required.

The employee must be able and willing to travel to work at various pediatric practice sites in the Bronx and Westchester, including CHAM and Hartsdale. 

Transportation to and from practice sites will be the responsibility of the employee.

An interest in pursuing clinical diabetes educator (CDE) certification in 1-2 years of employment is strongly preferred.
