The Unified Technical Director of MRI responsible for the overall conduct and performance of MRI and must have a general operational knowledge of each site and location. They are responsible for management of all services provided by Radiology MRI locations and function as the key liaison for maintaining and building the MRI referring network. They participate in central Radiology councils to provide decision making and expertise in MRI for the development of supplies, service contracts, and capital purchases. The Unified Technical Director of MRI directly manages the hiring, training, quality oversight, safety, and overall technical performance of staff within MRI and serves on the departments and organizational committees. Communicates with various members of the hospital staff at various levels within the organization to include but not limited to, clinical, research, administrative and community. They communicate with physicians, physicists, nurses, radiology, administrators, nurse practitioners, patient advocacy representatives and various members of other clinical and administrative departments, as well as the public.


1. Responsibilities
 Develop, implement, and oversee MRI tech training curriculum and on-boarding, including on-boarding/annual competency checklists, documented training program, vendor applications training, and new processes/procedures as necessary.
 Collaborates closely with QA Management, Off Campus Imaging Leadership, the Safety Office and other operations managers to ensure consistent, quality care to all patients in MRI.
 Partners with the Radiology Director of Patient Experience to develop and implement a vision for service excellence and patient-centered Radiology in MRI; including the measurement of performance and training of staff in patient experience.
 Accountable for overall management of the MRI service line across all MMC campuses, including management of MRI technical leadership at each site (Assistant Chief Techs, Lead Techs, Assistant Directors, etc.) and all technical staff in MRI.
 In Partnership with the physician Director of MRI Safety and MRI physicist, leads MRI safety team to ensure the MRI department is in line with current Joint Commission (JC) and American College of Radiology (ACR) standards
 Collaborates with department administration and physician leaders on business plan development to introduce and support new clinical programs or technologies, as well as monitoring reports of overall volume, equipment utilization, market share, and other KPIs for MRI throughout the system.
 Leads and collaborates on specific projects as it relates to operations and process improvement.
 Directly responsible for interviewing, hiring, and orienting all technical clinical staff for the MRI Department. Evaluates technical performance and ensures on-going competency based and
required training in partnership with the local site operational managers, QA manager and supervisors in the MRI Department
 Standardizes operating procedures and effectively troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise. Works with the Manager for Quality and Safety to maintain existing policies and identify new policies in MRI. Ensures management and staff have knowledge of existing policies and communicates inter and intradepartmental policy and procedure changes to management and staff.
 Leads MRI across MMC regarding recommendations on additional equipment and technical protocols.
 Oversees the MRI physicists to direct work priority and ensure protocols meet appropriate safety standards.
 Ensures that adequate written MRI safety procedures, work instructions, emergency procedures, and operating instructions are issued to all MRI staff, along with the Medical Director of MRI Safety. In addition, the MRI Operations manager must maintain personnel records of required MRI safety training and competency reviews.
 Collaborates with medical directors and managers for clinical oversight and policies across all acute and outpatient campuses to ensure continuity of care with department standards.
 Works closely with the Radiology Engineering to identifying present and future needs for renovations and equipment needs in MRI.
 Works closely with the Radiology Informatics Team to identifying present and future needs for innovative IT solutions in MRI.
 Ensures all clinical licenses and ARRT documentation are maintained and that the MRI Department meets the guidelines for ACR, NYS DOH and Joint Commission.
 Develops a collaborative relationship with key stakeholders, including other departments and physicians to obtain feedback, support, and promote the department’s operational and strategic goals, and maintain the highest standards of quality care, patient safety, and customer service.


Education Preferred Level: Master’s Degree
Education Required Level: Bachelor’s Degree
Length of Work Experience Required: 5 years
