TECHNICIAN CT/MRI

Under the direction of the Chief Technologist, performs MRI Procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis Or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes a) entering patient data into Epic and other appropriate computer systems as necessary. b) Placing the patient on the scan table in the correct position for the scan to be performed. c) Obtain appropriate scout image for procedure.
  • Obtain cross sectional images: This task includes the proper setting of protocols and sequences to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist.
  • Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the radiologist during biopsy procedures as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring progression of biopsy procedure c) Involved with operating injector when necessary.
  • Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling scan images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation.
  • Maintain all necessary records of image slices, etc.
  • Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety/MRI safety for patients and staff.
  • Train other associates and students in CAT Scan or MRI procedures.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
  • Perform duties of a 4T technologist as needed.
  • Perform other related assigned tasks

This position is primarily Monday thru Friday, but will include weekends as needed.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal Radiology technology program, and MRI training that meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT.
  • Valid license by the State of New York
  • Verbal ability to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiologic and medical terms and to exchange information with patients and hospital staff.
  • Spatial perception to visualize inner structures of the human body in relation to x-ray source and receptor in order to obtain radiographic and digital images of diagnostic value.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of MRI imaging
  • Communicates with patients in a manner which demonstrates understanding of the patient's developmental and cognitive level.
