The Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center has a proven history of developing and perfecting treatments for all disorders of the vascular system, including abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, lower extremity peripheral arterial disease (PAD), varicose veins, and renal artery stenosis. The non-invasive diagnostic vascular laboratory offers a full range of options for all vascular disorders. Here, Montefiore's vascular surgeons and technologists employ the latest treatment and imaging technology to provide the high-precision care that patients require.

The Ultrasound Technician performs all Vascular Ultrasound diagnostic laboratory tests including color Doppler ultrasound evaluation of the carotid, peripheral (upper and lower extremity) and visceral venous and arterial systems as well as plethysmographic testing of the arterial circulation. This position is responsible for preliminary reporting and transmittal of study results to referring physicians. Position including bedside studies on inpatient floors and in ICUs. Employee will rotate to multiple locations based on the operational needs of the department.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate and quality diagnostic studies
  • Teach and assist in training of students and new technologist
  • Interaction with referring physician, new Technologist and students
  • Review diagnostic findings with Tech / Med Director
  • Perform appropriate number of studies per day
  • Stock supplies and linen
  • Follow Vascular Lab workflow
  • Render excellent patient care
  • As needed, suggest / perform additional pertinent studies based on findings of initial examination or patient presentations
  • Provide initial preliminary interpretation
  • Determine which studies should be performed at the bedside based on patient medical condition
  • Independently performs vascular studies
  • Will use Plethysmographic devices: Parks flow, Unetixs Multilab series II (with HP DeskJet color printer). Phillips IU 22, Phillips iE 33, Epiq, GE Logic 9E and Zonare Color Doppler ultrasound machines (which include peripheral digital recorder thermal paper B/W and color printers), handheld continuous wave pencil Dopplers

Qualifications:

  • High school Diploma required
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT, RVS) sonographer with minimum of 1year of clinical ultrasound experience involving venous, carotid, arterial and abdominal testing required
  • Must be BLS certified
  • Knowledge of performance pulse volume recordings, segmental pressures and Doppler waveform analysis or completion of CAAHEP vascular sonography program
  • Extensive knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation principles, vascular technological test modifications, anatomy and physical exam
  • Proficiency in operation of PC and use of Vascular database LX and Atrium
  • Knowledge in all diagnostic duplex ultrasound procedures performed within the department and ultrasound guided procedure

The hours of the position are 10:00am-6:00pm with varying days and alternate weekends. This position may need to cover other areas per departmental operational need.
