VICE PRESIDENT CHIEF PHARMACY OFFICER

The Chief Pharmacy Officer will lead Montefiore Health System Pharmacy Services throughout the continuum of care, including but not limited to:  acute care, ambulatory care, infusion locations, home delivery, and retail settings. The Chief Pharmacy Officer establishes the vision for Montefiore Health System Pharmacy Services to support and sustain excellence in delivering pharmacy services and will provide business and operational rigor to effectively manage and grow pharmacy services.
The Chief Pharmacy Officer is responsible for all aspects of Montefiore Health System Pharmacy Services including strategic planning, business and operational oversight, medication safety and quality, business development, maintaining internal and external collaborative partnerships, regulatory oversight and planning  and continuous improvement activities to deliver exceptional patient, clinician, and financial outcomes. The Chief Pharmacy Officer will collaborate across Montefiore to achieve these goals.

The Chief Pharmacy Officer must establish strong collaborative relationships with key business and clinical leaders throughout the organization (e.g. Care Management Organization, Montefiore Medical Group, White Plains Physician Associates, Faculty Practice Group, Montefiore Einstein Advanced Care, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nurse Executive, Medical Directors, Procurement, Transformation Office, and others) and with market pharmacy leaders across the country. The individual is expected to understand and assess the external health-care and pharmacy environments and to develop short and long term plans to ensure that Montefiore is well-positioned for current and future success.

The Chief Pharmacy Officer is expected to engage with clinicians, business leaders, and others to further integrate pharmacy services into seamless care delivery processes across the care continuum.

Responsibilities
Provides the leadership and direction to develop, recommend and implement programs, policies, procedures, and standards. This position works in concert with senior leadership to strategically develop pharmacy service line expansion opportunities, manage the initiation and development of new business enterprises and oversee the development and operation of all services. Ensures that pharmacy services are provided to patients with a consistently high level of safety, quality, cost effectiveness and customer service. To provide quality care in a safe, convenient, timely and efficient manner, the Chief Pharmacy Officer supports the design and implementation of quality and medication safety initiatives. Provide strategic management of Pharmacy Operations by establishing and supporting programs in accordance with strategic goals. Lead strategic discussions to ensure operational efficiency, optimization of expense management, and grow Montefiore Pharmacy services. Responsible for assessing external clinical pharmacy industry trends and developments that represent risk and opportunities for the organization; develops short- and long-term plans to respond to potential risks and to capitalize on opportunities. Integrates pharmaceutical services, standards, and quality improvement practices throughout Montefiore, including acute, ambulatory, post-acute, home, and other settings. Promote collaboration with leaders across the organization to advance high-quality pharmacy services. Leads and directs a team of pharmacy senior leaders in order to achieve consistently high levels of performance meeting key processes indicators. Responsible for communications within Montefiore Pharmacy and throughout the organization to ensure information is shared for effective operations and to promote positive employee relations. Acts as subject matter expert on various committees, as requested, and represents Pharmacy Services in planning, communication and decision-making discussions.

 

Licensure / Certification / Registration:
NYS Pharmacist license

Education:

Doctor of Pharmacy required. Master’s in business administration preferred.

Work Experience:
10 years of experience required. 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred. Must have a demonstrable experience in health care improvement and operations.

Additional Preferences:

A minimum of 10 years of progressive pharmacy management experience with documented success in an integrated health-care system, managed care, insurance, PBM, and/or other relevant environment with broad clinical, operational, business, and regulatory background.
Experience in a role requiring advanced financial acumen including devising appropriate operational responses for budget variances, annual capital and operational budgeting, pro-forma development, financial monitoring and business development

Experience in a role requiring skills related to balancing clinical, regulatory and financial goals and outcomes and collaborating with individuals at all levels within the organization
Experience working in a highly matrixed organization. Possesses the ability build cross-functional relationships to ensure likelihood of success with strategic initiatives
Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to developing others and serving as a mentor and role model
