Contact payers to request service authorization for both scheduled and unscheduled services for Montefiore Medical Center patients whose insurance requires authorization. Ensure payers are prepared to reimburse organization for scheduled services in accordance with payer-provider contracts. Collect financial and/or demographic information from patients as needed
This position is responsible for pre-certification/authorization and referrals for all out-pt visits and testing, Ambulatory Surgeries, and in- patient surgeries. Notification of all emergency admissions to ensure insurance company and managed care plans have been notified timely. Verifies and updates insurance. Estimate patient responsibility and notify patient of their financial responsibilities for co-payments, deductibles and self pay amounts. Securing payments via cash checks and credit care. Evaluate self pay patients for referral to the Medicaid or financial aid unit.
High School Diploma or GED is a must with college course work preferred, and preferred experience in authorizations, collections and/or insurance verification. Must be experienced in providing excellent customer service and problem escalation/resolution in high volume atmosphere. Candidates must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent telephone and face to face communication. Must be able to work independently and get along with others. Must successfully pass pre-hire assessments, math grammar/vocabulary and customer service with a score of 80% or above.
