We are seeking a Sr. Application Analyst to join our Substance Abuse IT Product Support Team. This role is critical to the support of Montefiore’s Department of Psychiatry – Division of Substance Abuse Programs & Clinics. The Substance Abuse IT Team is responsible for the SMART electronic medical record application, (Forms & Template Design, Identity, ROI, Clinical support, Medication and Dosing) and related Epic interfaces. The Sr. Application Analyst will report to the Product Manager with key responsibilities such as quality control for all SMART builds and collaborating with senior leadership.


The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, have a thirst for learning and be a committed team member. The Senior Application Analyst will use their extensive knowledge of the client’s clinical or business requirements, application capabilities, and their technical skills to support the department.



  • Define go-live and rollout support schedule. Assist in the coordination of field support activities. Provide go-live and rollout support. Support users on new applications, modules, and functionality.
  • Oversee analysis of application modifications and work with the appropriate Montefiore IT associate or the vendor to coordinate the modification.
  • Provide advanced application troubleshooting support for the application(s). Resolve critical issues. Review Application Analysts’ resolutions and solutions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine how a new system, upgrade, or new component can best meet the needs of the users.
    • Analyze business/clinical needs and requirements.
    • Interpret end user requirements, discuss potential options, and help client move towards optimal solution.
    • Reveal potential issues related to user requests.
    • Evaluate the operational workflow that is applied to the system.
    • Create system specifications from user requirements.
  • Create test plans and test new systems, version upgrades, and any system modifications. Document all outcomes of testing. Review Application Analyst’s test plans and documented outcomes for consistency and thoroughness.
  • Design database queries and create reports utilizing a report-writing tool.
  • Proactively monitor the application(s) and recommend improvements.  
  • Write and maintain accurate and current documentation. Maintain training materials and disseminate materials to users. Review documentation and training materials prepared by Application Analysts.
  • Act as a liaison to the vendor for Montefiore IT or the client.
    • Manage vendor communications needed for support, issue resolution and escalation.
    • Coordinate vendor activities including hardware or software installation.
  • Assist Application Analysts and other team members as necessary. Encourage, assist, and foster development of co-workers’ skills and proficiency.
  • Developing working relationships with clients. Work with clients to develop improvements.
  • Meet with or speak with users regularly to discuss open requests, current needs, and any outstanding issues. Act as the interface between the client (departmental users) and Montefiore IT departments.
  • Provide 24 x 7 on-call coverage for user support on a rotating basis.
  • Commute throughout all facilities within the Montefiore Medical Center hospitals and other Montefiore IT clients, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with EMR full life cycle application/system implementations, troubleshooting, testing, and support.  Experience with SMART EMR is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of revenue cycle systems and processes. Experience with IMA revenue cycle system is highly preferred.
  • Experience with any of the following systems: Qnomy, AIRS, STARS, IMA & Avatar, Photo ID Card System.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Patient Privacy Regulations, HIM and Release of Information
  • Experience with regulatory requirements and reporting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with customers, vendors, peers, and management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work well on team
  • Excellent follow up skills, documentation skills and organizational skills
  • Must be adaptable in a rapidly changing environment with competing priorities
