As an Epic Education Team Lead, you will play a key strategic role in aligning our Epic education and training initiatives with Montefiore Medical Center’s mission of delivering seamless, high-quality care. You will work closely with leadership and key stakeholders to ensure that training programs meet regulatory and technical requirements and enhance end-user engagement and system adoption, contributing to improved clinical and operational outcomes. This role will be instrumental in the transformation of our Epic education program, incorporating innovative learning technologies and methodologies to empower our healthcare staff in delivering exceptional patient care. You will coach and mentor a team of instructional designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of instructional designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence in educational content delivery.
    • Conduct regular skill assessments and support the development of individualized growth plans for team members, ensuring that each instructional designer stays current on adult learning principles and Epic system updates.
    • Oversee the work of team members, participate in planning, delegate effectively, and provide support and guidance to the entire team.
  • Instructional Design and Curriculum Development
    • Oversee and contribute to the development of curriculum and instructional materials using evidence-based adult learning strategies, ensuring content is tailored to the diverse learning needs of healthcare staff.
    • Incorporate the principles of self-direction, practical application and collaborative learning, while recognizing that adult learners bring prior experience to the learning environment and are motivated by the relevance of training to their work.
    • Guide the instructional design team in translating overall training goals into actionable plans for creating engaging and effective training materials.
    • Lead the integration of blended learning models into the Epic education curriculum, ensuring a cohesive, comprehensive learning experience that leverages both digital and traditional educational methods.
    • Embrace innovative learning technologies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the training program.
    • Oversee the creation of interactive online courses, digital learning materials, and the incorporation of multimedia and elements where appropriate to enhance engagement and learning.
  • Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration
    • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and IT leadership to ensure education initiatives are aligned with organizational goals and workflows, facilitating improved user adoption and minimizing training gaps.
    • Serve as a key liaison between the education team, training team, and other departments, communicating effectively with stakeholders, including project managers and leadership, to keep them informed of progress and potential roadblocks.
    • Work closely with Education Managers to ensure seamless integration between online and face-to-face education and training components.
  • Technical Proficiency and Continuous Learning:
    • Maintain expertise in Epic’s system updates and emerging trends in healthcare IT education and training, ensuring that the program is continuously evolving to meet new technological and organizational demands.
    • Stay abreast of advancements in adult learning methodologies, digital learning technologies, and best practices in healthcare IT training to ensure the training program remains at the forefront of innovation.
    • Maintain and renew Epic certifications in line with Epic updates and expansions to ensure educational content is always current.
  • Project Management and Operational Efficiency:
    • Work alongside Education Management to support evaluating, planning, and executing projects of various sizes that require the team’s participation, ensuring that timelines, resources, and delivery methods are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Requirements include:

  • Epic Certification: Required and current Epic certification(s) in line with Epic updates.
  • Adult Education Expertise: Demonstrated experience in adult learning theories and best practices in instructional design, with experience tailoring educational content for adult learners in clinical and technical environments.
  • Leadership and People Management Skills: Proven leadership skills with experience managing high-performance teams, demonstrating emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and the ability to inspire and motivate staff to achieve team and organizational goals.
  • Experience with Technology-Enhanced Learning: Experience with a learning management system (LMS), eLearning platforms, and other digital learning tools is essential. Familiarity with Workday Learning, Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360, and its benefits for Epic education and training is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably with exposure to Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
